Re: Do you think this Ovchinnikov mark is genuine?

Hi Frontfloater - on the shown mark, the original maker´s stamp is overstruck by the "Ovtschinnikov" - pseudo stamp. The original Ovtschinnikov stamp was never so close to the assay marks. For better understanding I show an authentic stamp - see placement. http://i529.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: help me identify this mark

Hi -

the "Fabergé"- and the scratch-/inventory marks are fishy! The other marks look good - but one have to see the complete object.

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi asti - without drifting to dogmatism: experience for years and several authentic pieces at my hands, which look complete different, let me come to the conclusion I stated. That is my opinion - nothing more. If you can profit or not is your problem - but no reason to get personal I think. By the w...

Re: The Russian spoons

Dear asti - Maybe it is an unfortunate coincident that I always get the "wrong" Klingert. Apologies for that and an own opinion. A friend of mine (antique dealer) says whenever a fake is offered to him: "Very interesting piece but unfortunately I have no interest in the moment". ...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi asti - Do not ask for opinions if you can not live with the answers - I know from experienc how hurting it could be. I not only gave you a simple answer, I tried to prove it with several reasons. I have authentic objects in my hand, not one looking like the shown photos. Maybe it is a coincidence...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi asti - I have no ego problem. As mentioned before I had or have no problems to accept facts or the greater knowledge of somebody - but the facts must be more or less convincing. The best are always real existing objects. Most of the fun of collecting is not only to get some new piece - but also t...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi asti - I know that several visitors of the forum think I have a mental problem with Russian silver and use the word "fake" too often. When I started collecting Russian silver over 20 years ago, I remember when I bought an enamel cigarette case by Ovtschinnikov for 120 $ from some Russia...

Re: The Russian spoons

Hi asti - with all respect, this spoon looks not authentic. My 3 question marks = see your photos 1) the complete "filled" pattern http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd334/Postnicov/34t739c.jpg 2) the bowl rim has allways light blue dots http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd334/Postnicov/5...

Re: What silversmith is it?

Hi Okapi - The reason why you get no answer to your question "What silversmith is it" is very simple: It is no silversmith - because your marks are both wrong in the sense of legality and in the sense of authenticity. What you have are pseudo - or phantasy marks - better faux marks - to de...

Re: What silversmith is it?

Hi Okapi - you go to a forum for Russian objects and ask for opinions. Several members here are experts, not self-styled but through dekades of collecting experience or studying tons of files - members who communicate with other collectors, monitor the market (also the newest trends in faking), trav...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

Hi - there were no "famous" assaymasters - only famous silversmiths! The assaymaster on duty just assayed all the silver which came in - it does not matter if it was from a known smith or a not so known smith. Important was that the silver content of the whole object was according to the l...

Re: Is it Fake or Not? 9

Hi Smokanabeach - Is the Kokoshnik real with the letter v for Kiev? Maybe it is a faded Delta for Moscow, what I strongly believe. Better photos give better answers. Please look at the small round confirmation punch, there must be a small dot left of the neck= Moscow. See photos below. The Skvortzov ...

Re: Is it Fake or Not?8

Hi - sorry to tell you: a fake again! Some reasons why it is a fake: 1) Kokoshnik for the year 1908 - 1926 (Imperial silver ended with the Revolution 1917!), town: Moscow 2) Silver content 88 (916,67/1000), used for better quality objects 3) maker: Sbitnev Grigorij Michailowitsch, Master workshop fr...

Re: Is Fake or Not? 7

Hi -

Tardy I would not recommend for Russian marks - it is more like "from every country a little". If you are really interested in Russian Silver, you have to invest some money in books - better than investing in fakes.

Re: Malcz dish

Hi - forgot to mention: When your Mr. Paul Paulson writes from: "Twelve, sometimes 13 Polish silver standard was used. We also find 84 standard, the assayers mark, the Russian doubleheaded eagle, and the makers mark on many silver articles made in the 19th century." Than he wanted to say (...
