Mystery Mark

I have a group of silver cups, all the same pattern, all appear to have been made by the same maker. However, there are three different marks. N900, 900 e69, and then the mark pictured. I have several pieces stashed away somewhere that are marked 800 e69. I assume the mark pictured is a pseudo mark,...

Re: Giant Danish Spoon...What was it used for?

In the example picture I posted you can look at the size and construction of the spoon. Clearly it would not be used to cook with as it would have a very limited life span due to how it is constructed. The weight of the bowl and items being stirred versus the thickness and strength of the stem would...

Re: Big spoons - unusual big +30cm

Great little collection of Big Spoons. I did notice the bowl shapes were all similar to picture I posted the other day. Completely and entirely different than any large spoon examples I have seen from England, Ireland, or America.

Re: Unknown Hallmark on Sterling Mesh Purse

That appears to be the mark of Weizennegger Bros, Newark NJ, manufactures of mesh bags and diamond dealers (Rainwater, p. 272)

Re: Giant Danish Spoon...What was it used for?

Thanks for input on this spoon. The spoon in general would be inconvenient for typicay serving use because you need such a large bowl or pot to contain the spoon. It just dwarfs a standard 12 in bowl and will fall right out. I also see vast differences between this spoon and large American/English/I...

Giant Danish Spoon...What was it used for?

I picked this spoon up a few years ago in Canada. One of the biggest silver spoons I've ever seen. Not sure what it would be used for, baptism? It measures 15 inches long, the bowl is 5" by 3.5" and holds a half a cup of fluid.

Re: French Plate Marks???

The item gives a blood red response to silver testing acid, almost as if it were solid silver. However, under the plating the acid turns blue then black, similar to other white metal plated pieces. I suppose it could be plated pewter.

Re: Cigarette Case- Maker and Country of Origin Unknown?

Excellent information. I thought it looked Austrian but the marks were not right. I little surprised that is post '66 based on how it was made, I'd of thought mid-30s latest. Thanks so much for helping out on this piece.

Re: American (?) mark I don't recognize, please help.

I struggled to get that clear of a photo. The mark with the II is only 1 mm in size. I looked at about 5 of these different marks. I might have one that is more clear than the photo, the marks are not real crisp. It looks somewhat like a boars head...

American (?) mark I don't recognize, please help.

I have a few sterling silver mesh purses with the following mark. The marks are small and I don't recognize them. I assume they are American marks since the items are also marked sterling. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Unknown Mark on Silver Goblet

Thanks for the quick response. A second set of eyes is very helpful. I'd been looking at the mark from left to right, looks like a two headed snake. Now that you have posted, I see the unicorn when viewing from right to left. Thanks again.

Unknown Mark on Silver Goblet

I have a medium large silver goblet with the mark below. Mark next to the 13 is so small I tried everything to get a good picture but no luck. Mark is also a bit rubbed. Any ideas?

Re: Need some help with silver marks

Thanks for the information. All of the items are hollow ware (platters, plates, goblets, etc...). The one part that has me confused is the Fluer de lis with and without the conjoining "C". The items with the conjoining "C" mark are significantly higher quality, really well made, ...

Re: Need some help with silver marks

I was also going to mention that there is some variation in the fleur de lis mark. The picture below shows the same two marks but the third mark appears to have a C in the fleur de lis mark.
