Re: Help ID Maker of Sterling Marked Basket

Hello, what I find irritating is that the oldlooking marks under the word STERLING do not look punched but cast. The word STERLING as a mark was rarely used in Germany before 1945. Which leads me to believe that what we have here is a quite modern cast replica of a Hanau piece. Such replicas often c...

Re: gucci italy/what is this used for?

Hello and hhhmmm - interesting ... This is based on an egg cup ("Eierbecher" in German) , designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld for German WMF, late 1950ies, if I am not mistaken, produced in stainless steel only. For copyright reasons I cannot post vintage catalogue material here, but one should ...

Hello, there are several variants to the Mayer mark. this is one of them. A two digit production number is quite typical for Mayer too, so I have no doubt. Regards, Bahner

Re: Help identifying what this heavy flask is made of

Hello, judging by the colour of the metal and the mark I suspect pewter. Have seen marks like these on decorative pewter items not for use, just for show. The 95 is for 95 % tin, the rest may be antimon or lead, so for medical reasons it may be better not use use this. Regards. Bahner

Re: info on german box ,angel blowing trumpet on lid.

Hello, believe we all have the same problem here - the pics are very light and a little fuzzy. Hard to tell what we are seeing. Better pictures might help. My first thought was German, too, but that is really just a gut feeling, don't quote me on this. You are right, the 13 or rather the 1 only is t...

Hello, used to see a security warning when I still had my old computer system. But I had access to all sections of this site. After an update to the most recent computer system using Firefox as usual I did not see that warning any more and I continue to have acess to all parts of the site. I wonder ...

Hello and no, this is not Moehler's mark but that of Stuttgart jeweller Ernst Menner. This type of mark with the fox on top was used after 1932. Regards, Bahner

Re: not sure who the maker is on this box

Hello, the maker's mark seems to be incompletely struck, so there is guesswork involved: it looks like GW ligated, much like the mark of Gustav Wenning from Pforzheim, a maker of gold- and silverware like this one. Regards, Bahner.
