Re: Darmstadt Silver Mark

Hello, agree with the dating, not sure about the city mark. In all three cases it looks badly punched and I am not even sure if this is a lion or a horse or a lamb. I am thinking along the lines of the Frankonia/Thuringia region of Germany. Regards, Bahner

Re: Coffee serving set 60-70, unknown maker

Hello, pieces from the "series m", designed by Karl Dittert for Kuehn in 1959. It was made in Sterling and silverplate and and also included heater, tea pot etc. This modern form of the Kuehn unicorn mark was used ca. 1960-1970, then Kuehn went back to its traditional unicorn mark. Regards...

Hello, this kind of marking (WMF and no frame) was introduced ca. 1965, so this can be dated from the middle sixties onwards. Best wishes, Bahner

Re: Compote spoon, maker?

Hello, to my knowledge F. Bahner never took over patterns from others (well, one exception: Pattern III designed by Henry van de Velde, first handmade by Koch and Bergfeld), but others (retailers, even makers) took over patterns from Bahner. Without having seen the spoons you mentioned I would guess...

Hello, looks like pattern 5000 by Franz Bahner. So this could be a badly punched lion's head. Regards, Bahner

Re: M.T. WETZLAR Tray Help (Possibly 830 Silver??)

Hello, Wetzlar ist just the retailer of this piece, it was actually made by Wilkens from Bremen. See here https://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_marks_a1884_9.html for marks used by Wilkens, including one with a 830. The numbers are most likely production numbers. It is true, 830 was and is not very commo...

Re: Identify german hallmarks

Hello, actually this is the city mark of Striegau, Silesia. IAL is J.A. Lemor from Breslau, for a while around the middle of the 19th century pieces made by him appear with the marks of smaller Silesian cities, probably because they were sold there and so assayed by the local guild rather than the B...

Re: I think this is Italian or French

Hello, this could also be German. The form reminds me of antique Roman silver, compare with the Athena plate from the HiIdesheim silver treasure found in 1868. For copyright reasons I cannot post pics here, but they can be easily found on the net. Believe what we have here is a more modern interpret...

Hello, 84 is the plating thickness as explained here

The 69 is most likley for 1869 as date of production. But I am no expert on Frech marks. Regards, Bahner

Re: Need help identifying these hallmarks

Hello, made in Berlin around 1850. Cannot be more precise because I currently do not have access to my library. The letter B in a circle is that of the second warden. The N might be the maker. There was a maker Nelson in Berlin who stamped with a N much like that, he might have been the one. There w...

Re: Please help with hallmarks of a set of spoons and forks, 15 Loth

Hello, believe what we are seeing here is a 13 rather than a 15. 15 would be highly unusual for small decorative pieces like these. Cannot read the other marks, though I suspect the smaller one to be an import mark of some kind. Regards, Bahner

Re: Unknown marks on milk jug

Hello, Lameyer was a jeweller from Hannover, Germany. Though he had a small workshop most of what he sold was made by someone else. The French guarantee mark for silver and the fineness of 950 lead me to believe that Lameyer imported this from France. Are you sure there aren't any other marks ? Rega...

Re: Ice Tube Pitcher, Claret jug- unknown maker

Hello and welcome, believe we might need a better picture of the mark on the left hand side, but this could be one of the marks used by German maker Quist on its plated items. As to the mark in the middle - sorry, no idea. For an explanation of the number 5 see here https://www.925-1000.com/a_platen...
