Iranian hallmark?

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help with the hallmark I've seen on several pieces. Almost all of them were bracelets with miniature paintings in Persian style. The mark looks like Arabic lettering. Could it be 19th century Iranian? Or Indian? Thanks for any ideas. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_...

Re: French maker's mark?

Hello. The marks don't look French to me. Check out the countries using the .950 standard here: http://www.925-1000.com/a_Standards.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Pat. Hi Pat, Thanks for your reply. Of all the countries that used .950 it could be France or Italy, by the style a...

French maker's mark?

Hello, I came across an exquisite brooch, probably French, and I'm trying to find any info on the maker. There are two stamps on silver, 950 and FWC, the latter is also present on ivory. The letter C on the ivory stamp has a distinct Art Nouveau shape. As far as I understand 950 is a hallmark, could...

Re: Sheffield or Birmingham?

Hi Trev,

Thank you so much for your reply, it does help a lot! Can you recommend any useful resource or books on English gold? I often struggle with a lack of systematic information on English goldsmiths and hallmarking rules.

Best regards,

Sheffield or Birmingham?

Hi, I came across a ring with a strange set of hallmarks, it has both Sheffield crown and Birmingham anchor on a shank. I've never seen this before, can anyone tell me what might be the reason for double hallmarking? There is only one date letter, Gothic h, it can be found in both offices and I don'...

Glass holders (unusual marks)

Hello, I recently came across two glass holders and was told they were Victorian English items. I'm quite familiar with English hallmarks and to my mind this is not English sterling silver. It might be silver plate which I have very limited knowledge of. Could anyone enlighten me on these marks plea...
