HELP!!! (again)

I was at an estate sale and picked up this little (approx 2 3/4" diameter) dish. I thought the markings were pretty strange and figured it was "german silver" or some other none silver alloy. I haven't acid tested it BUT I hydrostatically weighted it & it has a specific gravity hi...

Re: help!!!

Hi Daniel: I'm afraid we're at a dead end. Bolivia is a major silver producer and it looks like there are many craftsmen who eke out a living producing knick-knacks for the tourist industry. I think we can narrow it down to Bolivia but I'm afraid we'll never know who used the mark or when it was use...

help!!!

I found an interesting (to me anyway) hand made coin dish & I'm at a loss regarding region, maker & age. It seems to me that it has an early Americas influence, and as always, I turn to the experts when I'm stumped. I posted here since I have no idea if it's US southwest, Central or South Am...

Re: Old Silverplate Help w/ Marks (crossed keys, odd numbers

VERY OLD TOPIC but I was wondering if anyone ever identified the maker? I have an old silver plate match box holder with the same markings and I'm coming up empty trying to determine who made it. I'm wondering about the "e" and figured that it could be an attempt at an old ampersand as in ...

Need Help

Hopefully someone can identify the maker because I can't find the mark anywhere. A clue might be that thew piece is an old souvenir spoon.

Thanks -larry-

Is it Sterling or Silverplate? How do you tell?

I know this is sacrilegious but no one has mentioned acid testing. It mars the piece being tested so it should only be done on scrap or in a place that is very inconspicuous. You can use fuming (65-70%) nitric acid but beware, it's called fuming for a reason and it's NASTY stuff. Use only in a very ...

Hoping for some info

I have a salad set and the only marking is sterling handle. I'm hoping that someone can tell me if this is a cataloged pattern or just something "made up" for the set. The handles are 4 1/4" long. Thanks. http://www.globalarray.net/user/kandlsales/salad/salad001.JPG http://www.globala...

Is it Sterling or Silverplate? How do you tell?

The only real problem I've ever encountered was a Towle "Old Colonial" serving spoon that had no markings other than Towle. The rest of the set was marked sterling & I could find no evidence that "Old Colonial" was produced in silverplate. Still, I wasn't certain so I asked f...

Re: Help! Maker & Pattern

Hmmmm - saw the admin note & I'm guessing there is a problem displaying the complete image for some people? They display fine for me.

I resized them to 800 x about 240 in Photoshop before posting them. What's the best size to post? Thanks

Help! Maker & Pattern

Hi: The pattern seems familiar but I'm old and my memory is shot! No maker mark on the handle or blade. As always, help is very much appreciated. http://www.globalarray.net/user/kandlsales/id/needid001.JPG http://www.globalarray.net/user/kandlsales/id/needid002.JPG (admin note - if you are using a P...

Re: Help with a Wallace Pattern

You can remove this listing also - the pattern is Rose Point.

Shows that I should never try to identify patterns when I'm tired.

Thank you.

Help with a Wallace Pattern

Wallace ladle that's about 5 1/2" long. I checked the Wallace patterns and couldn't identify it. The contrast isn't great, it's pierced in the center. Help appreciated. Thank you http://www.globalarray.net/user/kandlsales/id/id005rs.JPG http://www.globalarray.net/user/kandlsales/id/id007rs.JPG

Help to identify this Gorham pattern

Hello: I need help in identifying this Gorham pattern. It is very similar to the 1926 "Old Colony" and the marks appear to date it in the 20th century but it's not quite right when I compare it to an "Old Colony" master butter picture & I can't find a closer pattern. It's 6 9...

Maker & Pattern

I can't make out the mark on this piece & I'm hoping someone can help, perhaps from the pattern or from the little piece of the mark that's left. Also, I'm guessing it's a sugar spoon but certainly couldn't swear to it. Thanks -larry- http://www.globalarray.net/user/kandlsales/unknown/unknown001...
