Re: Please help identify silver hallmark, maker's mark on Venetian gondola

Hi, it is a yet unidentified Hanau Germany pseudo mark made for export to Great Britain. There is a wonderful section on Hanau silver in the World Marks, Germany section of this wonderful website. Samuel Boyce Landeck is even listed as a known importer of Hanau Silver

Re: Silver? decorated plate

Hi again! Just wanted to let you know that I did check my resources and it would seem that you have an authentic 18th century (1700's) Guatemalan Salad plate. There is a very similar one in Leona Davis's book and the marks match up to some in my Dictionary of Spanish Silver. I don't know where you f...

Re: HMS mystery makers mark?

Hi, nice cross. I am not sure who the maker is but I can tell you this for certain, It was made in Scotland and assayed in Edinburgh (the castle mark) in the year 2000. The 2000 mark was a special optional commemorative mark that any gold/silversmiths in Great Britain could use.

Re: Please help identify silver hallmark, maker's mark on lidded bowl

Hi lovely piece. I believe your piece comes from Cambodia or southeast Asia. the T.900 mark, According to ADRIEN VON FERSCHT in his "CHINESE EXPORT SILVER 1785-1940" is... "The ’T.90’ is a mark based on the old Tola system of weight initiated by the British East India Company in its c...

Re: Silver? decorated plate

When I get back to my apartment on Monday I will try to remember to check my books. The Leona Davis book "Spanish Colonial Silver" is very very helpful and last I checked it costs less than $15 on amazon used. I also have a book on Spanish silver marks that may help but that book, unfortun...

Re: Silver? decorated plate

Hi, lovely plate. I don't have my books with me at the moment but I believe your charger is 18th-century Spanish colonial and comes from Guatemala. It could also be a tourist reproduction as well. I need to check my books first and match the marks up. It could also be directly from Spain, a lot of t...

Seville Spain Coral Snuff Box

I just purchased this little snuff box. I could see in the pictures that it had hallmarks for the Town of Seville Spain. According to my resources, these hallmarks date from 18th - 19th century. I could not find anything on the maker though. The maker mark looks like ONT.A, I believe Garzia is the S...

I don't think that is a hallmark at all, just part of the chasing in the design.

Re: I need help identifying the mark

I believe your piece is Greek and probably no older the 1960's. I wish I knew what the other numbers meant (not the 925) because I believe they are some sort of code to who the silversmith is.

Re: TEA CADDY - Help with marks - FRENCH? ITALIAN?

Hi, based on the style of the piece and the way the 800 is marked, I have a feeling that your piece is Indonesian or some other South East Asian Country. Also it was found in India it is even more likely that is from South East Asia. Asian silver seems to find its way to India far more often than Eu...

Thank you for your reply. What is your source for that? I don't question it but I am always looking for new silver hallmark resources and I don't have a good one for colonial and federal era american marks

Re: Clown brooch hallmark

I think I know who makes your pins / brooch. It is definitely made by the thing that lives in every child's dark closet or under its bed at night. Those are two of the most frightening pieces of clown jewelry I have ever seen.

Re: S&B colonial table spoon?

Ok, finally figured out how to add pics. I have been told this piece is by Sheppard & Boyd of Albany NY but no reference has their mark looking like this. The S the B and the & are all way different. Also the style of the spoon indicates that it is older than when then when they were in busi...

Re: Tiffany & Co. Cigar Lamp - Authentic??

I think your piece is probably authentic and was part of something larger. Why would someone fake a Tiffany hallmark with OTHER METALS on it when there are not other metals (tiffany had plate and soldered marks). Most likely your piece was the heat lamp for a tea set or part of a very elaborate smok...
