thank you once again, I had little hope of anyone figuring these out but you certainly did. I also will look into getting the book you referenced.

Re: 18th century French Teaspoon in case

Thank you for your response. The one spoon does indeed say Imlin but it looks to be inside of a wavy cartouche rather than a rectangle. The letter appears to be an L above it. The other spoon does say IRB on it. I believe the letter over the IRB might actually be a 13. I have tried to take better cl...

18th century French Teaspoon in case

I have recently acquired this lovely little set of 4 teaspoons. Stylistically I believe they're French, they're only marked twice. I think the set is made of 3 spoons by the same maker and 1 by a different maker. The spoons measure about 142mm long. I am not sure if they aren't by the same maker so ...

Baroque 17th/18th century Sweetmeat / Tastevin

I very recently acquired this beautiful little bowl ( 5.75" handle to handle, 4.5" without and it stands 1.5" tall) which I have seen described as a sweetmeat dish or tastevin. The interior is still gilt as the outside edges. It only has one mark that I cannot identify. Any assistance...

Re: Unmarked spoon/ladle 8-22-36

Hi, lovely sauce ladle. It is probably solid coin silver but not from 1836. The etched design is East Lake which is a later Victorian design. The date was probably engraved much later in this piece's life (like 1936). A lot of American companies made plain unmarked pieces and sold them to retailers ...

Re: Antique silver gold rose cut diamond and emerald necklace

Hi, your piece is definitely made in an old-style but I believe it is actually fairly modern and comes from Cyprus. It's hard to tell exactly as the photo quality is not great about the Cyprus part but I am much more certain about the piece not being old.

Re: Baroque 17th Century German Herm Spoon?

The french swan mark is pretty common on older pieces because French dealers and more often French auction houses would have them added. I have a few 18th & 17th-century pieces from different countries with the swan mark that I have no doubts what so ever about their authenticity.

Re: Baroque 17th Century German Herm Spoon?

I believe it is old. It has all the wear you would expect on an old spoon especially the scratches on the right-hand underside and curling lip from years of use. I am more or less wondering if anyone knows the mark or its origins. However, if anyone has proof that it is more modern I am open to that...

Baroque 17th Century German Herm Spoon?

This is a fun spoon I recently acquired. It is marked twice with what looks like either NE or HE or possibly EN, EH, or less likkely BN or BH inside of square frame. It also has a French swan import mark garunteeing the spoon is at least 800 silver. There is a repair on the bowl. It is engraved on t...

Yes, your piece was not made with electroforming. The details on your piece are sharp and beautiful and it is definitely authentic

Almost every fake Unger bros piece I have seen is made via Electroforming, it's fast and cheap and usually pretty obvious.

Strange old cup

Not sure where this is from and I was hoping somebody might have some suggestions. Probably 17/18th century. As it has no markings, the best I can hope for is somebody might recognize the strange almost oriental decoration. My limited knowledge of ball footed cups has them ranging from Scandinavia d...

Thanks, Peter. I was hoping you would see what I missed. Now two spoons I was ready to confine to the mystery category have some light shed on them.

Frisian William & Mary Spoon 2

This is the other William & Mary spoon I acquired which is also gilt and has an even more rubbed makers mark that I can't identify. Any help, if possible would be appreciated. I don't have a huge amount of hope though. https://i.postimg.cc/R6tMP75B/IMG-2169.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/XZmjc2PL/IMG-...

I recently acquired a couple Frisian William & Mary spoons with later gilding I believe. The marks are so worn I am not sure they are identifiable but I figured I would give it shot. if anyone will know it will be Peter https://i.postimg.cc/m1WnTMcB/IMG-2163.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/8jDY3RQb/IMG...

Re: I believe this cup is 18th century Russian?

It indeed it may not be Russian, when I bought it, it was described as German and I thought it was as well. However, I went through all of the hallmarks at Theodrichs comprehensive Silberpunze, which has hundreds if not possibly thousands of pictures of German and some near German hallmarks, and non...

Re: I believe this cup is 18th century Russian?

ok, as I stated I know nearly nothing about Russian silver but from what I can gather (and then only from small bits on the internet), Peter the Great implemented a hallmarking system c.1700. I can't really find any pieces with official-looking hallmarks from before the 1730s and then only from St. ...
