Thanks to everyone for identifying this piece for me. With respect to cleaning, I would think removing the 170 year old patina is NOT desirable. I have only used soap/water and acetone to remove surface debris.

Another crazy idea, but could this be from 1739 instead of 1839?

Excuse my ignorance on the topic, but is it possible the RH was marked at the time of manufacture and the item later received the other marks as a type of "verification" at a later date -- perhaps the item had the RH mark and sat in "inventory"? Sorry if my conjecture is impracti...
