Re: Scottish Ladle - Edinburgh or Provincial?

Piette Not an expert but Richard Turners CD and Directory of Scottish provincial marks gives me to believe this is Richard KEAY of Perth 1791-1825. He is recorded with this combination, which is standard Edinburgh small work marks. Robert KERR is recorded as a Glasgow maker 2nd half 19th century, I ...

jordanyorg The Edinburgh Assay office website (incorporationofgoldsmiths) shows 'T.E' to be Thomas Kerr Ebbutt an Edinburgh silversmith who registered this mark in 1903. He died in 1921 but the company TK Ebbutt Ltd was still registering marks up to 1996. There are pages of company history recorded....

rushton-dc I am looking at 'The Silversmiths of Birmingham 1750-1980' by Kenneth Crisp Jones. J Gloster Ltd registered five similar marks between May 1909 and August 1949, your mark appears to be the February 1935 registration, the right hand side of the mark has been lost, a letter D should follow ...

Okapi You are not the first to be confused by Birmingham Assay marks at this time, an article 'Birmingham 1868- unusual shield shape', appeared in the Silver Spoon Club magazine 'The Finial', copies of which are reproduced on the internet. Search for 'The Finial ' then scroll down to Vol 15/01, Sept...
