Re: WE WF WC London?

Greetings Warren, you write:

"Over at silver collection the letters and the surrounding cartouche are more clear"

Of what forum/website do you speak may I ask? I too would like a better reference as well.

Do you have a link?

Punch Bowl - Maker ID and year mark

So I ran across this today: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5522/14163844356_be2474da8f_c.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7424/14186957964_2159eb028f_c.jpg My questions are, who's the maker? There are several "WC" maker's marks but I find none with this particular cartouche shape. The ye...

Re: Mystery Item... Dutch Sterling?

The whole serving/straining part is only about 5 inches long... How about "tea strainer" in the shape of the Netherlands?? Is was an export item possibly? https://www.google.com/search?q=the+netherlands&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=JUNcU6bJA8GryASno4L4BA&sqi=2&ved=0...

Re: Mystery Item... Dutch Sterling?

I should have shot a side view... I don't think that's what it is. It is not wide enough, the handle is not offset higher (so the server's/user's knuckles aren't in the way, and were you to see it from the side, you would see it has a "bowl" shaped feature. So the whole piece is flat save ...

Re: Mystery Item... Dutch Sterling?

Oel, on that link you posted about the maker's mark, scroll about half way down the page and look at the ones for "Weinranck & Schmidt"... mine has that same grapes, wheel, and "thing'a majig" (like a flower blossom, or 'U') that are shown here... Odd.

Re: Mystery Item... Dutch Sterling?

Wow thanks! So what is it?? I can't think of what you would use it for! And where do you find a chart of year marks past the 1935 chart found on this site? I don't seem to be able to locate one... :-(

Thanks for the response!

Mystery Item... Dutch Sterling?

So I'm starting here and, if the mods see need to move it just tell me where it went. I "think" this is a Dutch piece: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2916/14018671502_89f6e62c31_c.jpg A slide show: https://www.flickr.com/photos/19089828@N00/sets/72157644337489774/show/ My question is; what...

Re: Child's Tankard: Maker's ID Help Please

Trev I'll give it a try later today but it is so very lightly present at all. There's a repair to the handle and of course, it had to be polished; and there went the mark. I'll add/edit to this post when I get some more pix.

Re: Child's Tankard: Maker's ID Help Please

I'm thinking an "I" for the left hand letter, as it's so close to the edge of the oval to be anything else. Of course you have to use your imagination for the rest of the oval... really on both ends/sides of it for that matter but it would seem to need more room/length for any other letter...

Paul Storr sugar: ID Coat of Arms

Here's the Storr sugar I've acquired, it's big! I guess they really liked sugar:

I would like help with the owner's coat of arms if anyone recognizes it.

Re: Large Paul Storr Server... Crest ID Help Please

Goodness Warren... a bank vault?? I had no idea. So horses were a prize yes? I'll post a pic of the Paul Storr sugar that came in this lot, ( a huge sugar! like they couldn't get enough of it!) it has a cast, hand engraved/embellished thoroughbred finial... hmmm. I can't remember what crest is on it...

Re: Large Paul Storr Server... Crest ID Help Please

Thanks Phil I missed that dot in the maker's mark. I see now that is the earlier one I've got on this piece. And I miss spoke earlier, I meant a "duty" mark... isnt' that what the little head of George III is? I don't know that whole story on duty buy I presume it was to the Crown; sort of...

Re: Large Paul Storr Server... Crest ID Help Please

Lest one think me lazy, I've found the meaning of the motto and, it points to the Duke of Westminster and or, his kin.. for all that's probably worth. None the less by way of simple consideration of the letter date of 1804 (which make little sense as Storr's mark wasn't registered in 1807??) against...

Re: Large Paul Storr Server... Crest ID Help Please

Oh, and I forgot to ask, since I'm paying real money for this; may I assume that the "cushion and Crown" are sterling as well? I ask as they bear no Leopard's head cartouche that I can find. They are #'d "4" to the piece i.e. as in assembly, and bear the export mark (?) and maker...

Large Paul Storr Server... Crest ID Help Please

Here's a large Paul Storr server (for lack of a more fitting noun) with a finely done crest... to whom might this have belonged? And can I assume that such common pieces as this are at the bottom of the "collectability curve"? I like it, and; I use my silver every day but for the life of m...

Ha ha!! yes Trev; very true! I'll look into that book. All I've got is the internet and, the little "Bradbury's Book of Hallmarks". Must say it has helped me some but I''ll hunt down the one you've suggested as well.

Re: Really big shell... maker's ID help please

Thanks to the both of you for answering... So what was this for? any particular service or use? Phil you mentioned I must not have a very good chart for the year letters. The only one I can find is the one on this site http://www.925-1000.com/dlc_london.html the one for 1911 has a little "point...
