S. Kirk & Son mark question. #2

So in this tread: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=45868&p=134546#p134546 I mention a second piece w/a newer style maker's mark in script (and a poor job of it may I add), and the same "11oz." mark.... here it is: https://c8.staticflickr.com/6/5730/30491202775_b44...

S. Kirk & Son mark question.

So in looking at the mark, what does it tell us? I ask, as the seller has conveyed in the auction write up, that this is a coin silver item (yet shows no such mark for 'coin'). Here's the mark: https://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?set=path%5B1%2F4%2F4%2F1%2F2%2F14412378%5D%2Csizedata%5B850x600%5D&...

Re: Two coin spoons...

Thanks Trev! and yes; I'll remember next time about the"one at a time" rule.... these just didn't seem important enough for the xtra bandwidth. I just thought it odd though that they aren't even marked coin! So do you figure that both are antebellum items? I've never fooled w/coin much but...

Two coin spoons...

They're not marked but they are coin. So I went to the "maker's marks" part of our website here and find that Seymore "partnered" w/someone most of the time but I don't find this exact stamp. That said can anyone date either one of these? The Seymore Hollister is pretty rough. ht...

Re: Coin fork maker ID

Thanks Silverly!, so when I think of coin silver, I'm thinking 1865 or earlier... but that may not be right. Actually, I wonder when, for the most part, coin silver ceased to be the standard in this country? I've always been told that sterling silver became the norm shortly after the Civil War ended...

Coin fork maker ID

I have 24 of these: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1559/25408676880_8b47a9f998_z.jpg And the maker's mark is a griffon/eagle head of some sort over a shield w/a star in the center, but no name. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1607/25614455231_a08e83dfb4_z.jpg And a purveyor's/retailer's mark: "J...

Re: E. KINSEY coin silver ice tongs

Trev! thanks so much! So in reading your post, it would seem most likely that my tongs were made before 1840 or after the two bros. split in 1861... does that sound right to you? Seems they were partners for what? 20 yrs. or so? Great history! I of course am going to use them! Thanks again!! Regards...

E. KINSEY coin silver ice tongs

I picked these up recently and can't find anything out about "E." Kinsey... I find coin made by E.& D.KINSEY, but not just a/the mark of E. KINSEY. Our site here states E.&D. were in business from 1844 to 61 so I'm guessing the "D." came before or after the "E."...

Re: Tea Caddy Spoon... no city mark?

Thanks for the reply!, great explanation... I''d never have thought of that.
So wouldn't it be something to find a "transferred" city mark?!! Now that would be cool!

Re: Old Newbury Crafters silver service

Hi Mitch, Thanks for sharing the information, it's appreciated. Is that the same maker's mark that you apply to spoons? Trev. No actually the stamp I used to use was just a WJ (for Wilkins Jewelry) sort of offset. I had it made back in 1977 and broke it, literally, in half last year. It was made/de...
