Re: unknown mark on Breslau rat-tail spoon

Hello silverfan,

I thank you for your information.

The both assayers letters "G" from Beyl looks different to the mark on the spoon (Hintze, Breslau, plate II 35, 36).

Regards, Ringo

unknown mark on Breslau rat-tail spoon

Hello, I have a spoon from Breslau/Wrotzlaw made by Christian Maximilian Schmidt from about 1740. On the handle of the spoon is an additional mark "G". Has anybody an idea about this mark?

Best regards,Ringo

Re: Berlin spoon, who is the maker?

Hello Jörg,

it looks like the mark of Georg Friedrich Fournier , 1773/74-1832 (Scheffler Berlin p. 288ff).

Best wishes and merry christmas,
Ringo

Re: unknown Duch mark and object

Hello Oel, I thank you very much. I have never heard about this distinguishing markin system with dots, commas etc. That is very interesting. I just wonder about the dimensions of this dutch sugar casting spoon. The german pieces I know are weigh about 3-4 times less than this spoon. Best wishes, Ri...

Re: German? spoon

Hello rika,
on the basis of the pointed engraving it seems, that Johann Christian Horn was not only the maker but also the giver of this sugar-sprinkler spoon.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Re: German? spoon

Hello Rika,

most probably it is the mark of Johann Christian Horn (born 1813) from Højer/ Hoyer in Northern Schleswig/ Southern Jutland (today Denmark).

Kind regards, Ringo

Re: unknown mark "DIECK"

Hello Theo, thanks for your answer. Sadly there is no date on the spoons. If Mr. Dieck(s) from Ruppin is the same like C. A. P. Dieck from Berlin, who worked there until 1856 and later in Angermünde and Ruppin (Scheffler), it seems to me a little to late. But one of the both goldworkers from Grimme...

unknown mark "DIECK"

Hello, here is an interesting 19th century spoon. The Makers mark is "DIECK". There is an silver smith Neel (Cornelius) Dieck, 1761-1835, in the city Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein. Bowl-decoretion is not unusual in this region, but I am unsure about the pattern. I think, the spoon comes fro...

Hello Hose, here is the image of the spoon from Martin Krüger from Liepaja/Libau in Courland/Latvia and of the engraving. The inscription is: Joh (than a high "n" on a line; that means a acronym for Johann) Bruno . Vahrenhorst (with circle over the a) : a Liebau . 1793 Kind regards, Ringo...

Re: Courland 18th century mark?

Hello AG2012, thanks for the note. But I don't think about Liebau/Lubawka in Silesia but about Libau/Liepaja in Lativa (In the 18th century the notation Liebau instead of Libau was very common). Furthermore I think that the use of an regional coat of arms as hallmark is not unusual. At last I think,...

Courland 18th century mark?

Hello, I have an interesting spoon. It seems, that it was made in Courland (now Lativa). The engraving mentioned the city Liebau (most probably Libau/Liepāja in Lativa). Has someone an idea about the maker? Kind regards, Ringo https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg...

Hello DianaGaleM, I thank you very much. I have never seen such skewers bevore. I have googeld "hatelets en argent" and I found a lot of more or less similar skewers now (from the 18th to the 20th century, solid silver and silver plated). It seems to me, that the type with a ring was used ...

Re: meat spit ?

Hello Oel, I thank you for your reference. The name is "GULDEN". I also do not suppose that the skewers are so old; but the mark from Mons/ Bergen was the only quite similar mark I have found. I have bought the skewers from west Germany near the border to th northern Alsace. In Lingolsheim...
