Re: Is this a Danish spoon from 1746/ Who is the maker?

Hi again wkost

Looking at the hallmark again, I think I have found the maker. It seems to be Ludolph Thiesen, citizenship in Åbenrå/Aabenraa/Apenrade 1729-1760's.

Bedsted is just some 20 km due west of Åbenrå, so all in all the engraving and the hallmark seems to match each other nicely.

Re: One for me unknown maker

Hi Hjulben Your spoon is a typical Trondheim spoon, a rather strange type, best described as a dognose and fiddle-shaped spoon. It was made by Engelbreth Knudsen Engelbrethsen Møller (Born in or near Århus, Denmark, in 1743), citizenship in Trondheim (also apprentice there) 1771-1812. Alderman 177...

Hi, "Betstet" is probably that of the parish of Bedsted in southern Jutland. It is a typical southern Jutish spoon-type of the 18th century, anyway. Have you any relatives from that part of Denmark?

Re: Scandinavian Silver Identification

Hi, lovely strawberry spoon.

The townmark - the two oval marks - are a horse under a tree, i.e. the silver townmark for the East Jutish town of Horsens. The hallmark reads, I think, R. Jensen, i.e. Rasmus Jensen - a very proliferate silversmith, active from 1867 to ca. 1922.

All the best,
Peder

- by the way, John. Are the coins soldered on to the outside of the tankard, or have they been inserted into the body of the tankard (i.e. holes having been cut out of the body to accomodate the coins)? If they have simply been soldered onto the outside, then perhaps they could be removed and the ta...

Hi John and Qrt.s Qrt.s - you are absolutely right, I appologise. I did mean Lucas Andersen Steen, I always get the two mixed up. To John, here are some excerpts of what the 'Store Norske Leksikon' (Great Norwegian Lexicon) says about Lucas Andersen Steen (my translation): "... [Lucas Andersen]...

Hi John The hallmark appears to be that of Anders Lucassen Steen in Bergen, Norway. He was active from 1655 to some time into the late 1600s (I cannot remember off hand). It is probable that the coins have been inserted at a later date in order to make the tankard more 'sellable' 100-150 years ago. ...
