http://h.imagehost.org/t/0619/MVC-002F.jpg Hi Hose and Gammel Here is a photo of the lid with the initials and the shield. Hose I think you are right about the difference in the weights. The coins are of much thicker than the guage on the tankard. They protrude from the body and would account for t...

Scandinavian ? Coin Peg Tankard

Hi - I have a coin tankard, that looks Scandinavian in style, and the coins appear to be Danish. However I am unable to identify the maker. Also, I am confused in that the date engraved on the cover (1662) is earlier than the latest coin (1694). Does this mean that a plain tankard was converted into...

Hi Jakjo Many thanks for your fascinating information. It is amazing how Swedish silversmiths moved about. I have come across one who worked in Norway - I thnk his name was Appelgren. I have had another look at the unclear mark. It appears to be a lion rampant with a crown above, in an oval stamp. M...

Dutch ? Sifter Ladle

Hi I am presuming this sifter ladle is Dutch. but would be grateful for confirmation and any information on date and maker. The main hallmarks appear to be stamped on top of an assay scrape. There are also some marks that don't seem to be related to the main hallmarks. maybe stamped later. Any infor...

Eastern Ladle

Hi - Can anyone help identify this large silver ladle with huge oval bowl. It is 11.5 inches long and the nicely decorated handle is is hollow. The makers mark MOL is stamped in the bowl. I think it is from the Far East, but not sure. Thanks John http://g.imagehost.org/t/0956/MVC-022F.jpg http://g.i...

Thank you Hose. But can't explain the earlier engraved date. The cup certainly looks 18th century.

Thank you Jakjo and Hose - interesting comments. Have you any idea what the spoon signifies or could have been used for? What you cannot see in the pictures is that the flat stem is made up of several panels and every second panel has gold plating. Also there is a suspension loop on top of the crown...
