Re: Old European silver cup

Many thanks for your comments Theoderich. Unfortunately I don't think I can get any better photographs. My only reference is Rosenburg. The most similar Tubingen mark in Rosenburg is 4692 except the stamp in 4692 is shaped, whereas the stamp on the cup is rounded like 4693. John

Re: Old European silver cup

Thanks Trev and Hose. Much appreciated! Yes some similarities with 4562 on the link, but looks like two distinct letters on the cup. John

Old European silver cup

Hi - can anyone help identify the marks on this silver cup. It is 100 mm high and is quite heavy weighing 107 grams. It has engraved initials HEF and date 1818 so I guess it dates from early 19th century. The town mark appears to have 3 towers or turrets. Unfortunately only the bottom half of the ma...

Re: PH? and Cross

Hi Maurice - I have a fork with very similar marks that I have been trying to identify for years without success. The handle of the fork is fiddle pattern, but in the Scottish style with narrower proportions, so could point to Scottish origins. Regards John https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg htt...

Silver butter Shell

Hi - can anyone help identify where this heavy silver salt or butter shell comes from? It measures about 4.5 inches (115 mm) long and 3.25 inches (85mm) wide. It is on 3 cast silver whelk feet. Quite heavy weighing 140 grams. The marks appear to be 1: An eagle with head facing right. 2: A gothic let...

Norwegian cup ?

Hi. Can anyone help identify this small cup. Decorated with zig zag drape decoration. Hallmarked to base with makers mark ? SF, date mark 48 and another mark W or M over a device. It looks Norwegian to me and I guess the 48 stands for 1848. Would be grateful for any help. Thanks John https://www.925...

Hi there - can I suggest this be moved to the Dutch marks section. The stork with a fish in its mouth looks like the town mark for 'S Gravenhage. Regards John

Strange Russian Scoop?

Hi there - can anyone help identify the approximate date and maker/assay master of this Russian scoop. I believe it to be made in St. Petersburg. Also, any ideas on what it was used for. My initial thoughts was that it is a caddy spoon. However it has a hollow handle with a small blow hole! It is ab...

Re: Brazier from Dordrecht ?

Hi Oel - thank you as always, for sharing your knowledge. I have posted a photo of the crowned O. I suspect it is the duty mark, however the shield does not have the indentations as shown in your examples. I guess there were a number of variations. Kind regards John https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Xim...

Brazier from Dordrecht ?

Hi - I have a large silver brazier with a copper insert, which I think may be from Dordrecht. Any help in confirming this and maybe identifying the age and maker would be much appreciated. The brazier is on 3 turned wooden feet and it has a detachable turned wooden handle. There is a detachable copp...
