Re: Unknown early 17th/18th century 'Northern European' spoon

Some auction houses tend to tell fairy tales only in order sell with profit. In my eyes the spoon looks rather newly made. In those days spoons were made for use and not collected. There are hardly any traces of wear and tear on it and it also looks very new. Anyway, I tried Norway, Sweden, Finland ...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

@Mart Yes I saw the years in your message but they differ from the years I found in Bäcksbacka's and some other books and that is the problem. As you can see and what I said about the marks they are soot mark only . In case you don't know what a soot mark is, it is a copy of a real silver mark on an...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

A minor addition. I made a typo in my previous message. What i meant is that it is Mor's/Moor's not Mitin's mark!

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

Here are the picture I promised. However, note that I said that I have soot marks only! However, soot marks are made from originals, so??? https://i.postimg.cc/50nFsqFq/AM2.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/L5W2XhrM/AM1.jpg I'm not joking, but it seems to that we have a minor language problem here. Yes you h...

Yes I have read what you have written but I would appreciate that you read my answer my questions too and not only repeat yourself not answering me what I'm asking for. I send the picture soon of AM marks soon!

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

Yes I read it. OK it is Moor, but you didn't answer regarding the working years, please reread what I wrote and asked above. Look especially also at the ending the years; 1876 and 1877. Want to see the soot marks 1852-1856? I have them all. Moor must have worked longer than to 1866 only (about 10-11...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

#Mart Sorry, but your answer doesn't answer my question regarding the working periods of both (years!) so I repeat it: Please tell in what years Mitin assayed and in what Mor in St Petersburg? The Tverskoy period is known but the Mitin/Mor period is still a mess! Thank you in advance! PS. I can show...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

Sorry forgot to ask the following:
Bäcksbacka shows AM soot marks for Mitin 1852-1877 (p.23) and a bit different nameless soot marks AM (p. 24) 1852-1876. My question is, who is that?

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

#Mart OK, if you say so. This assayer Mitin versus Mor case has always been a mess. Different sources inform "conflicting" information. Ivanov states: Aleksandr Yakolevich Moor/Mor assayer in St. Petersburg 1831, 1850-1867 (in Tobolsk1845-49) Aleksandr Nikolaievich Mitin assayer in St. Pet...

Re: Carnelian Brooch 830 Silver with unknown marks

Without more marks, it is close to impossible. Moreover, 830 standard is commonly used in the Nordic countries, but unfortunately there are too few marks and those marks do not tell anything more that what is already seen from them. In addition, the marks do not either point to any specific Nordic c...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

Exactly, I am always suspicious when things seems to be too good. and especially due to the poorly struck marks, not to talk about the out of focus photos. I'm unable to see what the smudgy marks really show. I tried to enhance the marks but unfortunately with poor result, Not enough resolution... I...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

Unfortunately it is not clear at all, rather more confusing. The question is not the box's age, but the marks. AG2012 states that the maker's mark CE would be Carl Ernst. However, Carl Ernst was active around 1800-1849/50 in St.P. (is it really CE or what?). The assayer's initials seem to be AM and ...

Re: Nicholls & Plincke snuff box

HI

What if you take a look here: https://www.925-1000.com/Frussia.html and then revert to the case. I would be interested if you told us where from you have the information that this box would be Russian made?

Re: Russian spoon

You didn't read the instructions. See Trev's instructions above and follow them! The maker of the upper spoon (ГА, Latin GA.) The maker is Grigory Andreyev in St. Petersburg 1885-1898 and assayed by Aleksandr Tomasovskij Sevyer 1892-1898. The upper mark is a Soviet remarking 1927-1954 enabling the o...

There is no problem with posting pictures. Just try to do according to the instructions I gave you. Interesting spoons! You cannot edit an old post. Make a new one and the picture to it.

Re: Silver spoon. Silver stamp "W" with crown. Germany?

OK so be it, but in those days was the front side actually the back side because when the table was set the spoons were set upside-down as we see it today. The reason for that was to avoid having "bugs" or dirt possibly dropping from the ceiling in the spoon and flavor the dish with an unw...

Re: Silver spoon. Silver stamp "W" with crown. Germany?

#Sasropakis Mind my asking, but what has Henrik Petman to do with this spoon? His mark is a combined HP while on this spoon is if not clearly but somehow seen CCF? #AG2012 Yes the Finnish name is Viipuri. Let's not confuse the readers. However, this is an international site and Viipuri is internatio...
