The assayer is Aleksandr Vasilijevitsh Romanov in St Petersburg. He was the headworkmaster of the district. The existing of any A. Richter is doubtful today (Richtera is Russian genitive, expressing "Richter's"). The maker's mark is unfortunately too unclear.

Unfortunately we are a bit lost now because this thread was in the origin about the box. Anyway, to my understanding "unmarked" filigee work is usually silver plated brass or some other alloy. However, filigree work in silver must be marked with the respective Russian silver marks. This wa...

OK, sorry, my mistake. The new pictures show it better, it is 3 not S. But the town mark is still a bit of a mystery. Rosenberg is written already in 1928 and is not the best source for Russian (hall)marks. A lot of investigations has taken place after that with new findings. There are more sufficie...

With due respect dear oel, but hardly believe my eyes. Please take a closer look at the marks you refer to. First of all there is no Latin " S " in the Cyrillic alphabet. Its "S" is the Latin letter " C ". Secondly the name seems to be misspelled. The correct spelling i...

The spoon is from the Soviet period made after 7th May 1958. It seems to be silver 916/1000 quality (?). However, if you like to know some more, show clearer and bigger photos of the marks. They are unfortunately too unclear.

Interesting to see that the box (body) is marked on the inside. Usually the marks are on the bottom's outside. And full marks on the lid? The revers N (И) is the cyrillic letter I and the E is Ye (Je) meaning Ivan Jestignev. Anyway, 2209patrick presented the same questions that I did. Why two assay...

More questions:
Where are the marks on the box?
Has the lid separate marks?
Is there really 2 assayer marks on the same box (84)?
What mark is right of "Sazikov"? (cannot see it good enough)
What possible letter is on the imperial eagle's body?

"Sazikov" was one of the best and famous companies in Moscow and in St Petersburg. Founded in 1793 in Moscow by Pavel Fyodorovitsh Sazikov. The firm was a supplier of the imperial court as from 1837 and achieved the highest awards in different exhibitions throughout the world. The St Peter...

If you need to know the quality, you have to test the whole bag. The 800 quality is rather common. It could be Italy, France, Germany, Poland... If the bag is a fake, the 800 doesn't tell you anything. Marking close to the edge makes the marks a bit unclear, maybe for a certain reason...? I don't th...

Thank you for the information regarding the year cycle . That was new to me, interesting indeed. However, I'm more interested in imperial Russian silver but the Soviet era and its marks is unavoidably there and cannot be overlooked. No, I'm not a book collector but you need certain books in this hob...

Strange marks... The chain must be replaced later since the quality is only 800/1000. That was not allowed i Russia. The lowest quality was 84 zolotnik i.e. 875/1000. It looks that it reads K. Fabergé and a master mark of EK. Then there is also a kokoshnik mark from 1908-1926. But if EK is supposed...

Thank you for your addition dnl, however, hopefully we don't have a language problem here regarding the artels. They are not a Soviet "product". The first artel was founded 1900 in former Russia. That was the 1st Jewelry and Engraving artel in Kiev. The number of Russian artels was all in ...

This cigarette case was most likely produced between 1946-1954 in Tallinn, capital of (Soviet state) Estonia. The woman's head is called "rabota" (female worker) and was the Soviet hallmark mark during the period of 1927-1954. Unfortunately I cannot identify the maker's mark being from Tal...

I'm afraid that there is very little written regarding the artels in Russia. It is an area which is hardly at all investigated yet. All I know in addition to the already mentioned is, that the 9A artel was active 1910-1916. The work in the artels was unique and the opposite to mass production. To my...
