Your questions need some investigation. I'll do that and revert to the matter. However, if I remember correctly, the assay charter states that the master was obliged register himself in a certain town and assay only in the assay office to that town. The master should mark his unfinished but with the...

A very nice piece indeed and knowing its provenience makes it even better. However, the dubious thing is that the maker, Muromkin, did not work in St Petersburg but in Kostromá (at least to my knowledge). I scanned briefly my available sources and couldn't find anything indicating that Muromkin sho...

Yes, yes, I know your point of view, no problem with that. Sorry for using the word "solder" I actually meant attached or fixed.

And as was just wondering because the maker is unknown. Until he is identified, you never know...

This is an interesting cigarette case indeed. Unfortunately I have to say that I have no idea of the maker. Nevertheless, What's interesting is that there is a right faced (Russian) kokoshnik on an item with a Soviet order/medal. My question is that is the medal added to an perhaps older, made befor...

OK case clear if its Lebedkin, its Moscow. Rather difficult to see it from the photo. It was a bit confusing. But unfortunately it doesn't help neither me nor you, Sorry.

The other "cases" are indeed very tricky cases too. No clues yet...

Hi

I don't think its Moscow. The initials contain the Latin letter S. Who would the assayer be? No assayer in Moscow used Latin letters to my knowledge.

About the two other cases, I unfortunately have no idea of who they are, but I'm trying to find someone.

My pleasure, but unfortunately this time I don't have a picture of BEP's mark. It is only mentioned in the books being his initials alongside with BP. Sorry, but I will keep my eyes open in case I stumble into it.

Evening Postnikov, nice troika :-)

How about niello master and silversmith Василий Егорович Рукавишников ~1890-1908?
He had a silver shop on Sh. M. Belenky in Moscow. He also used the mark BP

Its not Yachin, but Kiazev is one possibility, but the cartuoche on the spoon has more rounded corners, but...? However, to me it still looks like КИ and that gives two other possible alternatives: K. Iv. Ivanov, mentioned 1898 in Moscow and Ksenia Pavlovna Ilyina, also mentioned 1898 in Moscow. T...

Sorry admin, it shall not happen again. Back to the original matter. Sometimes, actually very often, it is difficult to gather information regarding imperial Russian silversmiths. The reason is very simple. Just before the turn of the century 1800-1900, the Russian authorities made a rather crazy de...

Your'e a lucky man today. Members of the foreign guild in StP usually used Latin letters. I have earlier stated that Postnikova is good but not perfect. I'm not fully convinced that the shown KB is Werlin, of course could be, but... http://i33.tinypic.com/653ct2.jpg What a pity that my DONG! didn't ...

I made a brief survey and the result was about 50/50. To my understanding the reason was this: The assayer was strictly forbidden to struck his mark if the maker's mark was missing. Every piece had to be brought to the assayer unfinished and in pieces but marked with the maker's mark. Only in such c...

DONG! Suddenly it caught my mind that are the initials really WK and not WR? That could be Wilhelm Reimer. He worked with Fabergé. K and R are very similar, and a badly struck W.R ...? Reimer's cartuche is rectangular with lightly rounder corners. On the other hand, Reimer was mostly a GOLDsmith as...

Interesting, always upside down? I have noticed that sometimes it is, but being a rule? What possible assay charter, regulation, decree or what is this argument possibly based on?

Hi, The assayer is Ivan Vonif. Yevstigneev 1870-1891 in StP and the master is Karl (Carl) Werlin 1868-1874. The master who worked for Fabergé was Stephan Wäkevä also Konstantin Wäkevä did it, but his mark is totally different, no shield. Cannot find any known master with WK who worked with Fabe...

No problem, The "triangle" is the Greek letter delta and the cipher/symbol for Moscow. The maker's mark cannot be be WB because W doesn't exist i the Cyrillic alphabet. The initials are Cyrillic ВФ but upside down in comparison with the assay mark, in Latin letters VF. That means that yo...
