Re: Russian enamel egg - unknown hallmark?

The silver fineness 960 is not suitable for manufacturing objects. It is too soft and you know that very well! In addition, it is not an standard jewelry fineness anywhere..Nothing more to discuss!

Like AG2012 wrote: Hundreds of genuine Ovtshinnikov made objects do not circulate on flea or Internet markets. Re: Russian enamel egg - unknown hallmark?

A bit more, ля (LJa) is the (abbreviated) name/punch for ИЧП ПТФ "Артес" г. Санкт Петербург. Unfortunately I don't know the whole name. Hopefully AG2012 knows it. :9 is the year mark for 1999. A closer look at the marks tell that they are the new Russian marks from 1992->... Moreover, the ...

Re: Russian enamel egg - unknown hallmark?

These small pendant eggs you will can buy in St. Petersburg in the entrance of the Winter Palace (museum). They are meant for tourists and made in huge varieties in different enamel colors. As you assume, most likely from the Soviet era or "New Russia".

Re: Help identifying maker

@Ubaranda Interesting info, could be ITB! (Looks like TTB!) Anyway, to my understanding Joha n (only one n. He was a Finn!) My sources tell me that Berg punched (Cyrillic) ИБ, ИТБ around 1895~1903. Mind my asking, but where from is the information that he punched Latin ITB also? Thank you in advance...

Hi all,
Skip Henrik Möller/Müller in Stockholm/SE 1645-90 (and Norway). His mark is conjoined HM in a shied and not even close to this one.

Re: T. Bors Spoon

Did I, cannot remember :-)))...Anyway, yes the mentioned T. Børs is the son of Christian Børs (master 1814-1859) in Bergen. Thorbjørn worked in his father's workshop as from 1844. He became master 24.9.1852 and continued in the mentioned workshop to his death 20.8.1888. He was the guild's last alder...

Re: A silver ship

This is actually a question for Peter, but as I happen to know the answer I can tell you that you are right. They are Dutch marks and the ZZ and hammer mark belongs to Zaanlands Zilvesmed in Haarlem/Amsterdam. Your ship can be dated to 1953 -> The other marks are weight indication marks. On objects ...

It is pure coincident that I saw this question. Nevertheless, the mark is from the Kostroma area and used 1954-58.

Re: Russian Mary of Kazan Silver Icon

No, you are not writing fairy tales, but you are jumping into too hasty conclusions based on vague information and sources. FYI! 1.The mark is not FM but F"M" and that is not necessarily the same thing! 2. Address books are not 100% reliable sources and have not much to do with silver mark...

Re: Russian Mary of Kazan Silver Icon

Yes, the second letter is an old Slavonic M used some times on icons. BUT, Fyodor Mnev???? Source please. In addition, Fyodor Maksimov's known punches in Moscow were ФМ and Ф·М in a square shield. He was active in Moscow 1823-1862 (too early compared with the town mark on the icon). This mark (St. G...

No problem dear Silverstone, I was about to write that ES is hardly Erik Strand. Obviously you noted it yourself :-)))). For the books: Erik Strand's punch ES has a dot (E.S and serif font) In addition, he also punched ЭС and ES (no serif!) Moreover, Strand was active from about 1870- ?, so.... Anyw...

Re: Breslau silver plate.

Ahhhh, please note that there is no Poland between 1772-1918. It was partitioned four times as from 1772 between Austria, Prussia and Russia. Austro-Hungarian hallmarking began soon after 1772. If the mark is Breslau/Wroclaw it is therefore most likely before 1772.

Could be Breslau/Wroclaw in Poland, Silesia and made around the the turn of the century 1700/1800 but not later than 1842.
Please note that I wrote COULD BE!

Re: Spoon: Double Stamp Ovoid/Prickings/Gravings/1808

Mind my saying minor additions/amendments: The three tower mark (town mark for Copenhagen) was in use only for Copenhagen's assay office already as from 1608, but it became the national mark for Denmark in 1893 . Before that year other cities "used" their own town marks. In Denmark a new h...
