This is an excerpt from Chr. A. Bøje, Danske Guld og Sølvmærker før 1870. Politikens Forlag 1954 page 223 and I am referring to mark 2432. http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv301/JAKJO/NyropDaugstrupres.jpg The form of the badly worn mark looks like this one and I disagree with Hose that it is ...

I agree with Tom, it looks like a Breslau face and if it is it would date the cutlery to mid 19th century.

Looking att the inscription once again I see that it looks like conjoined "S" as in Son and "D" as in Daughter- husband and wife- and perhaps a marriage spoon. And looking att the engravings, I will guess that the laurel "ribbon?" in the middle is done about 1800 but th...

As a Swede I say that the spoon looks Danish to me, provincial, two maker´s marks and about 1800. The inscription AJS could either be Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. It is actually a man´s name perhaps Anders Jensen (Anders Jens´ Son). I´m sure there will come a helpful Dane soon, answering your q...

I am very grateful for your opinion and your translation. In another silver forum a member gave the opinion: "I cannot help with anything about Chinese export silver, but I agree that the style and size of your cream pail is mid 18th century, perhaps circa 1760. There are collectors of cream pai...

Chinese Cream Pail - Georgian Appearance

Seeing this one in the shop, I thought that I had found a nice British Georgian cream pail, but when I turned it upside down I saw the Chinese mark and some sort of diet. The price was so low and the Georgian form interesting that I bought it. At home I started to read about Chinese export silver an...

Thank you, without other marks than the capital "N" supposed to be the Swedish year letter 1771, I dare to say that the spoons are not from Sweden. This conclusion based upon the Swedish hallmarking traditions and that this type of spoons was not used in that period. - Since 1759 a year le...

Sorry, poinçon de décharge is the correct term. The dog head is pictured on the right and I think that it looks like the mark on the lid.

In my humble opinion you have a very nice box made as said before by Francois Joubert, master 1749, the crowned capital "A" (Le poinçon de charge) for Paris and the capital crowned "B" the date letter (Le poinçon de Jurande) 1765/66. Jean Jacques Prevost was "farmer of the...
