Found these marks on a Louis Seize-style sugar bowl, imported to Sweden by C G Hallberg in Stockholm and marked with the town mark ”head of St Erik”, patron saint of Stockholm, the Swedish import mark ”three crowns in an oval”, ”S” as in Silver and the date letter Y 7 and that is 1925. The interesti...

Hi, The mark with only one lion is of the Frisian town Leeuwarden. The mark with two lions is the standard mark. And as you guess, L is the date letter 1746. I am sorry but I can not find the maker "Crowned MT". Source: http://www.zilverstudie.nl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return fa...

I am quite sure of a Norwegian connection. I did a search and found that there were /are gold- and silversmiths named Imsland in Norway. Some members of the Imsland family/families immigrated to the United States however and I cannot find a mark and a matching member. The names Theodor and Thorvald ...

I could be Danish but it looks German. It is not uncommon regarding Danish provincial silver that the silversmith uses his makers' mark twice and as in this case even three times giving it a faint recemblance to the hall marking practice in Copenhagen. My guess is that the ladle is made by Peder Eri...

Basket of Flowers Tea Spoon by Aaron Dikeman and K&C

I found this basket of flowers tea spoon with a shell drop on the back of the bowl a while ago. What I know about Dikeman is from William Erik Voss' ”Silversmiths and related Craftsmen” on the web. Aaron Dikeman, born 3 Jan 1796 in Norwalk, CT, and died 1882 in Grand Rapids, MI. He apprenticed in 18...

I have now found the "M2" mark, but I think that the "owner" of it, was a sub-contractor to Hoijkaas/Hooykaas. The mark I found is on a three piece art deco tea set designed by Harm Ellens. I cite the description by an owner of a website without violating the rules of this forum,...

I cannot give you references and sources, but I think that the mark "M2" has been used by Schoonhovense Zilverfabriek H. Hooijkas b.v.

It stands to be corrected and completed but to me it looks like one of Van Kempen´s marks in Voorschoten.

This type of beaker is called a Hanseatic beaker hanseaterbeger in Norwegian and its form is derived from beakers used in the hanseatic towns in northern Germany. I agree with you Hose that Bøje is not complete and I know that my edition is not complete, but I am actually not content with the matches. Perhaps we have found a new not until now known mark, but who is the maker. I feel that it is a genuine spoon and not a copy. But I wish to see similar Danish,...

I agree with you that we are dealing with a spoon that is most truly made in the 18th century. But I am apt to say that the possibility to find a matching, known Danish or a Norwegian maker seem fruitless. I hope that someone with the reference works concerning silver in Schleswig-Holstein will have...
