Hi, Its a bit difficult to see - do you have a better picture of the marks? It would also help to see a picture of the tongs themselves. On the face of it, this does not look like a British hallmark for the following reasons: The Date letter G should probably be in some form of shield shaped punch. ...

Can you help identify these sugar tongs, maker WW c1780

Can anyone help me with idenitfication of the maker and assay office of these tongs. They are a lovely pair of early tongs, I would estimate c1780. They are marked with the Lion Passant and maker's mark only, which means that they must be pre-1784. Unfortunately the Lion passant is a little worn wit...

I think your spoon is London, 1809 by Thomas Dicks. The small "x" looks like a journey-man's mark.

Hi,

Yes it is London, 1790, but the maker's mark is difficult to decipher. It looks as if it is one mark overstruck on to another. Is it possible to disentagle the mark, perhaps with a close up picture?

I can't see much of the maker's mark, however from your description, could it be Duncan Urquhart & Napthali Hart - they were active in London at this time. see below for some pictures that you may be able to compare with. http://www.silversugartongs.com/london/duncan%20urquhart%20and%20napthali%...
