I want to thank you all for your help.
I suspected it of it being electroplated. Perhaps we Scandinavians are too suspicious, hose?

Combined candle holder - candy/ nut dish

This candy- or nut dish can be made into a candle holder. It was made by Rogers. There is a number, 1901. Does it mean the year 1901, or what? I wonder when these things were modern. Thanks in advance for your help. http://aycu30.webshots.com/image/49789/2003648688215629677_th.jpg http://aycu10.webs...

Hi Byron, It was just 950 together with the word sterling that made me suspicious, and made me think that perhaps the mark EP meant electroplated. But do you experts believe this is solid 950/1000 silver? I know Japan sometimes use this standard. Could this be Japanese? If so, I guess the EP mark mu...

Coffe-tea set. Sterling or electroplated?

I found this beautiful set a short time ago. http://aycu10.webshots.com/image/49889/2002242235984524931_th.jpg http://aycu10.webshots.com/image/48609/2002271379828738490_th.jpg It was said to be sterling, 950/1000, possibly of Japanese origin, but I wondered about the stamps. You are right, Tom! Arezzo is a province. Wikipedia is wrong. There are around 100 provinces in Italy, not 20. Perhaps they mix up provinces and regions? I don't know.

I guess you are right about it being a Moslem figure. You have to search within the Arab world, perhaps? I'm afraid it won't be easy to find out.

Are you sure it is a Moslem figure? Couldn't it be a Biblical figure reading an Old Testament scroll?

The marks in the first picture, certainly looks Italian, but I'm not quite sure. The mark should be octagonal. It seems to be stamped twice, so it is difficult to see if this is the case. There is a star to the left is there? However you won't find any province beginning with AR. If it is AB it coul...

My reference book only says 1973, and I think that refers to the year the mark was registered. My guess is that the letters TVØ are the initials of the founder of the company, and that Finn Øyen is a son or grandson that took over in 1973. I don't think the firm excists any more, I can't find anyt...

Norwegian solje

Hi Tosten,
I found this mark printed along with the teapot mark on page 111 in the book "Norsk bestikk i sølv og plett"(2000). Look it up if you have that book. I think it must be the same.

Tostrup skjeer

Thank you Tosten! My guess was also 1930 -40. Glad to have that confirmed. Are you sure this is "speilemalje"? The metal ornaments are higher than the enamel. Isn't "speilemalje" translucent with guilloched metal underneath? The lenght of the spoons is 14,5 cm and the bowls are 4...

Thanks a lot!
I believe you are right. Saethers usually have a teapot as their hallmark, so I didn't think of that firm, but I have found this mark in one of my books now :)

Norwegian silver and enamel spoons

I have these 6 spoons, made by J. Tostrup, Oslo. How old are they? What sort of enamelling is used here? I hope anyone can help me. http://aycu06.webshots.com/image/46965/2001457495279380346_th.jpg http://aycu10.webshots.com/image/48089/2001486436712469725_th.jpg http://aycu19.webshots.com/image/485...

Norwegian solje

I wonder if anyone can identify the maker of this old Norwegian "solje" that I inherited from my grandma (born 1885). The hallmark looks like a hammer with the letter S around the handle. http://aycu28.webshots.com/image/49747/2000377587424216325_th.jpg http://aycu03.webshots.com/image/484...
