Re: Face of a man, mustache

Thank you Jörg! I am happy you have recognized this mark. The maker mark seems to be AL so maybe Antoine-Alexis Latour (1756-1837)?

And one more thing - what was the silver standard (purity) used within this mark? Any info on that?

Thanks again!

Face of a man, mustache

I do not know were to start. I was told the cutlery is old, might be from the 18th century... There are two marks. One of them is a face of man in a mustache? https://i.postimg.cc/J0jNL9Vf/Screenshot-2019-11-20-s-l1600-jpg-obraz-JPEG-1600-1200-pikseli.png https://i.postimg.cc/kMSFKt6T/Screenshot-201...

Re: English halmmakrs

Thank you! So the second mark from left is the makers mark or the mark for Sheffield Assay Office?

English halmmakrs

I do have a picture frame that has some marks on it. The lion does tell me it might be made of sterling silver (looks and fells like that) but the second mark makes me wonder as I have never seen it before and had no success in finding it in the British hallmarks section. What do you think? https://...

Re: Cairo, Egypt - date letter

Thank you Peter. Do you have a good source for dating Egyptian silver? I have came across different sources. One ends on 1982 and the other one is inactive (Egyptian government site).

Best wishes!

Re: Silver comb - mark - China, Japan?

I have seen the same comb in an auction catalog and it says "Silver comb Chinese export ware, Taisho Period the frame work modelled as a sleeping Geisha". But it does not seem to be right... a geisha and China??

Silver comb - mark - China, Japan?

What do you think about this comb? Is this a modern item? Looks to be silver-plated. Does anyone recognize the mark?

S with a crown and N

I have a small unidentified silver box. It has only two marks. Are these pseudo-marks or the real thing? Please advise.

Re: Elephants from Indochina

Hi Trev,

thank you for your time. Tola is a unit of mass. How is a tola connected with the 999? Is there something else to it than only mass which does not make any sense to me as one box weights approx. 100 grams.

Please advise.

Elephants from Indochina

I have these two elephant boxes which I would like to know more about. I assume they come from the first half of the XX century from Indochina. I think this might be the present territory of Kingdom of Cambodia. I also assume that they are made of silver of .999 purity. Can you identify the maker an...

Silver lighter base, probably Italy, rabbit?

I have a lighter made of silver. I have seen very similar lighters with Italian silver marks including the silver purity. Here is no other mark than this one below. It looks like a rabbit or kangaroo, - have you ever seen such mark? https://i.postimg.cc/W1nkJQBg/DSC00818.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/s2g...

Little pill box, enamel

I have found a nice little silver box. Because of the flower relief, guilloche and enamel I think it is something special. What do you think - who is the maker? https://i.postimg.cc/qqxw8jzj/DSC00779a.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/sfYTdDw7/DSC00781.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/t4qqtTm5/DSC00775.jpg
