Re: Lawrence Twentyman spoon
I believe that these marks began to be used in the period that Lawrence made King's Pattern silver. The first mention of this pattern was in 1827 in an ... s premises. I believe that Waldek probably was an apprentice of Twentyman.
LT used other marks during this same period, which is unusual.

Re: Looking for the origins of this spoon.
Hi Martin,
Well, it must be the Cape, and I presume Lawrence Twentyman, but I've never seen his mark with that typical style of Cape marking before, his mark is usually found with pseudos.
Hopefully someone else can tell us more.

Two pairs of Cape silver tongs - Fredrik Waldek
... It was believed the stub and associated fly press was imported by Lawrence Twentyman and used by a number of Cape silversmiths, but that Waldek probably took over Twentyman's concerns. Welz shows this as mark 165 and has his working dates as 1830 to 1877.

Cape forks in kings pattern
... post these table forks showing the marks of prolific Cape silversmith Lawrence Twentyman - Weltz 135. And unusually in the kings pattern. Hello Frank,
Welz numbers the illustrations of Lawrence Twentyman’s marks from 131 to 149 in his book. The mark on your piece is 138. If these are chronological then this marks comes around the middle of his time working in the Cape. However, I suspect that this is not the case and they are randomly ...

Hi Frank,
I don't have a copy of Lawrence Holme Twentyman's mark to hand at the moment, but I do remember that he used the 'LT' mark and pseudo English marks, so it could well be his mark.
If I remember rightly Paulh has a copy of Weltz's book, so he will, I'm sure, confirm or deny.
In the meantime ...
