ЗЗ-ЗЕЗ-ИЗЗ
ИЗ-ИЕЗ

Hello, Mart !
A very beautiful and most likely quite probable version. However, Iosif Zakhoder could not have had the ИЗЗ mark, since at that time in Russian the name Iосиф began with the letter I , that is his mark should have been IЗЗ . In ...

Re: Old silver cup, Imperial Russia

Among the Jewish families who moved to Moscow from the city of Shklov, there were two with the surname Zakhoder: Zolman Eselevich and Izrail Eselevich. At the very beginning of the 1870s, silver items with the hallmarks "ЗЗ" and "ИЗ" appeared. Later, they were transformed into "ЗЕЗ" and "ИЕЗ". I have ...

... different punches were used: ИЗ, ИВЗ, И.З., IЗ, I.З ... All in all, it is difficult to say with certainty who this is. Anyway, in my opinion both Zakhoder and Zaitsev can be skipped. ... Ivan Zakharov worked until 1889, his sons continued the business. His mark is “ИЗ” and he mainly made frames for icons. Silversmith Israel Eselev Zakhoder also worked in Moscow at that time. His marks were "ИЗ" "ИЕЗ".
It is still difficult to say with confidence about the “IЗ” mark, because there are ...

Re: Old cup Russian silver hallmarks

Hello!

The mark Н-ИЕЗ means "Наследники ИЕЗ" - the heirs of ИЕЗ. ИЕЗ = Израиль Еселевич Заходер (Israel Eselevich Zakhoder), the owner of a factory in Berdichev, Kyiv province. The cup was made in 1908-1917.

The maker is Girsh Ravkin (Гирш Равкин) from Berdichev (Kiev assay office). He was the son-in-law of Israel Eselevich Zakhoder (Израиль Еселевич Заходер - ИЕЗ) and in 1907 became his heir. The mark Н-ИЕЗ means "Наследники ИЕЗ" - the heirs of ИЕЗ.

Re: Israel Eseevich Zachoder Kiddush Cup?

The maker is not I.E.Zakhoder. The makers are "Successors of I.E.Zakhoder" (Наследники И.Е.Заходера -
Н ИЕЗ). This mark was appear after Zakhoder death in 1907. Real Kiddush cup should not be less than 90 milliliters.

I think it's better to translate title of the article as: O.Maltseva, Mark that holds the secret. I.E.Zakhoder's steam factory of various silverware in Berdichev.
("Steam factory" in sense "factory, equipped with steam engines").

Hmmmm, an interesting statement but it makes me wonder a bit. If this Zakhoder is so "well known", why is he not found in any reliable sources? Something written on an auction house's site is hardly a reliable source. They write whatever nonsense too often... You write ".. .mentioned in many Russian ...
