Hi Jim You are indeed correct with the maker, Emmanuel Levy - EL. The fork was assayed at Exeter 1816-1817. Between the maker's (rather, the sponsor's mark) and the Lion Passant you can see the remnants of the duty mark. I am not sure what the fork is used for, but potatoes would make sense. Someone...

Hi Brad The date of the safe box is 1906 assayed in Birmingham and made by Joseph Foster, I have several match safes made by Foster. Pieces assayed from 1784 to 1890 would show a duty mark which would be the head of the reigning monarch. So if your dates had been correct it would be the head of Quee...

Maker and a strange mark
Hi I recently got this jug in a job-lot, it is London 1752-53. The maker's mark is only partially showing, any guesses to who it might be? The third photo is a mark at the bottom of one of the feet, IHR covering a star, could this be a journeyman's mark? http://d.imagehost.org/t/0947/PICT0001.jpg ht...

Age of Sweetbread Basket
I've bought this sweetbread basket which I believe is Dutch (see the two marks), it is 0.833 silver. There are no other marks on the piece. Would anyone be able to place an approximate date for the piece? http://c.imagehost.org/t/0752/PICT0096.jpg http://c.imagehost.org/t/0111/PICT0034.jpg http://c....

Help with maker/year Columbian Silver
This peice of silver was purchased at a yard sale by one of my neighbours. It is clearly from Bogota, Columbia. Does anyone have any further information on this peice e.g. T N ? http://c.imagehost.org/t/0336/Dansilver1.jpg http://c.imagehost.org/t/0696/Dansilver4.jpg http://c.imagehost.org/t/0437/Da...

Cake Knife
We recently bought some cake knifes in Rhode Island, USA. Three were Swedish silver 1865 but the fourth is silverplate. Can anyone help with the silverplate marks? http://b.imagehost.org/t/0138/PICT0002.jpg http://b.imagehost.org/t/0316/PICT0026.jpg http://b.imagehost.org/t/0014/PICT0027.jpg Keith

I K on Loving Cup 1769/70 Perhaps JOHN KING
We have this very nice two-handled cup. The marks are for London 1769-70 and the maker is John King (Grimwade 1445-6). There is also a photo of a John King mark in Jackson (p. 213) for a tall coffee pot and dated 1769-70. http://aycu29.webshots.com/image/51268/2003280993055751298_th.jpg http://aycu4...
