I have 2 tablespoons (8 1/2") in Whiting's Lily pattern. I 'm giving them to my granddaughter and I'd like to fully explain all the marks. They are marked with the Whiting Lion holding the W in a shield, and are marked "Pat. 1902", (which I understand). They are also marked "R'D ...

It has some similarity to H. H. Curtis, and also to part of an early Frank M. Whiting mark. Good Luck.

Can anyone tell me when Sterling Manufacturers in the US stopped using silverplated blades? I'm getting some conflicting information. Some sources say it was in the 1920's, others say after WWII.

I believe this is the mark of Watrous Mfg. Co. of Wallingford, CT. They were one of the companies which became part of International Silver in the late 1800s.

I believe this is in the Hcu1 pattern made by H. H. Curtis Co. I have a piece with this mark and was able to identify it as H. H. Curtis.
