Re: Travel candlesticks from Sicily, Catania?

Yes, I found confirmation that the maker is Pietro Paolo Aversa in V. Donaver- R. Dabbene, ‘Argenti italiani dell’ 800’, Vol.2, page 73, marknumber 127: Aversa Pietro Paolo, Catania ...1804-1820...

Re: Travel candlesticks from Sicily, Catania?

Hi Amena,

Thank you very much. Convincing that it is Catania 1813. I had the hope that the candlesticks were from an earlier date, but 1813 makes sense because of the form. Happy that the maker (family of the other PPA) is known now.

Kind regards,

Re: Travel candlesticks from Sicily, Catania?

Hi, My reference should not be Anema (sorry), but Amena. See: https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=53955&p=171857&hilit=Palermo#p171857 The only other reference I could find is a mark PPA mentioned by Rosenberg, number 7356: Catania (elephant with CTR), Paulus Aversa who wo...

Travel candlesticks from Sicily, Catania?

Hi, These travel candlesticks are removable. Together they are easy to travel with and apart there is two of them. There are a lot of marks. I searched the forum and I found one of the marks in a post from Anema. There is a photo of marks from Sicily, Catania with the same PPA -mark as I found on th...

Re: S1-mark

Hi Oel, Thank you! In my copy of 1995 of Gouda, Netherlands' Responsibility Marks since 1797, the marks are not there. They also lack in the earlier copy's and supplement (1987). So it would have been better to buy the 2009 version. Incredible that it's not there because the Schöne company is a very...

Re: S1-mark

Hi Oel,

Thank you! It is indeed plausible that it is a essayers mark. In what book were you able to find the name?

Kind regards,

S1-mark

Hi, This tealight is made by Jacobus Carrenhof in 1824 (P). There is a mark I don't know: S1, the 'S' above the '1' in an oval. It looks like a Dutch tax-mark, but I can't find it. Who knows? Kind regards, zilverik https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg

Re: Sheffield Marks? Sun Crossed Keys Griffin Head

Hi,

Not familiar with any of the marks. Any other marks somewhere? Could this be a set of pseudomarks?

Re: mark French clock and watch industry

Thank you! Yes, this helps a lot. I am confused by, as it looks like, the different information about these marks. The writers can’t be all be right. A few examples: Beuque, E., Platine, Or et Argent, Dictionnaire des Poinçons, officiels français & étrangers, anciens & modernes de leur créat...

mark French clock and watch industry

Hello, These marks were used around 1800 for the clock and watch industry. In different books I have found different opinions about these marks. The years they were used differ from 1794 or from 1798? Till 1806 or till 1809? What was the use? FNB = Fabrique National de Besancon; FS= Fidélité, Sécuri...

Hi Silverk,

The makersmark is not clear on the one you took the picture from. Maybe the mark is more clear on the other items?

Anyone with a different opinion?

Re: Hermes box with an unknown master

Hi JayT, Do I understand you correctly that it could well be that Puiforcat supplied silverware to Hermès without the Puiforcat-mark? And that it is plausible that the Puiforcat-silverware for Hermès was marked by the mark of Émile-Maurice Hermès, EH. Why should Puiforcat not mark their silverware f...

Re: Hermes box with an unknown master

Hi,

Hermès-silver I know of are all marked Ravinet d’Enfert (and now Emile Hermès). I have 20 pieces of Hermès-silver in my collection and I have never seen Hermès-silver marked by Puiforcat. Can you show examples with the Puiforcat-mark?

Re: Hermes box with an unknown master

Hi Blakstone,

Thank you. I think you are right. But how do you know that EH wasn’t a trained silversmith? Couldn’t he have been director and a trained silversmith?

Kind regards

Hi,

I see 3 ducks. Above each duck is a different sign. I see an ‘A’ a ‘R’ and a ‘H’. The contour of the mark is unusual. Hope this helps.

Re: Hermes box with an unknown master

Thank you Blakstone. The existence of Emile Hermès as silversmith is completely new to me. I wonder if there are more known silver pieces from his hand. There must be something because of the quality of these boxes. Unlikely that the maker just made these and nothing before or after. Kind regards, z...

French tulip beaker with a unknown mark (recense?)

Hi, This tulip beaker has a weight of 83 gr.; is high 10,4; diameter up is 8 cm; diameter foot is 5 cm. Maker is Théodore Tonnelier (master in 1798). Marked with the head of Michelangelo = 1819-1838; grosse garantie for Paris: head of Cérès. So far everything fits, but there is a very tiny mark (loo...
