Thanks to both posters for the information and leads. A covered bowl on three legs does make more sense than a chalice of this design. Early 18th century seems accurate. No matter, it's an old and fascinating relic.

There is a maker's mark of P.H. and I've never found a similar mark. Especially since
initials are so common. Any guesses as to age,from the bowl attachment?

The handle soldered to the bowl makes me think this is 17 or 18th century American
