I’m trying to identify the maker of a silver gilt Air Observer’s badge, from the First or Second World War. Does anyone recognize this maker’s mark?

This silver brooch appears to be marked for maker William James Holmes, assayed in Birmingham in 1893. Yet, according to the research I’ve done, this silversmith didn’t register his seriphed WJH mark until 1897, four years later. Can anyone help me out?

Thank you, Phil! As the box has (unless I’m mistaken) a date letter for 1814, William Edwards makes perfect sense.
