Cruet with 4 dates and Pat D' ???

Have a lovely cruet stand with bottles 2 hinged lids, 2 cruets, and a salt and a pepper. There is a curious bell at the top. The only apparent marks are around two rings on the knob for the bell. (It's almost a finial.) The top ring says "PAT D' AUG 26, 1868. AUG 8, 1866" The lower ring sa...

Re: Kokosnik ID not on list- server & more

Thanks folks. Yes, it is confusing - for novices at least. However, having worked on developing directories before myself, I realize that what seems obvious to some (the developer) is clear as mud to others (everybody else). lol Also, since my "middle name" is "oblivious", accord...

Re: Is "N.S. co" mark alpaca? aka "nickel silver"

Thank you. The "co" made me want to jump to the conclusion of a company name, but couldn't find it listed anywhere. Appreciate your help.

Re: "Backwards" lion on Birmingham fork & spoon

ROFL! I've already misidentified Polish marks as Rusian Kokoshniks, so why not another total miss from US to England> Good grief!

Thank you so much for straightening me out. Appreciate the information.

Is "N.S. co" mark alpaca? aka "nickel silver"

Have a teapot, coffeepot, and cream & sugar service set (photo 1) with the mark "N.S.co Silver Mexico" (photo 2). Is this the alloy "nickel silver" or something else? (BTW, I assume that "alpaca" is the same as "nickel silver".) https://s20.postimg.org/450...

Re: Kokosnik ID not on list- server & more

Ummm, I just did a search on Polish Hallmarks and pulled up a page on this site!!! Why is it not indexed under the World Marks? Anyone know? I would have looked under Poland first, if I'd seen it in the index. (Of course, I wouldn't have learned so much about Russian silver if I'd taken that shortcu...

Re: Kokosnik ID not on list- server & more

Wow!!! Thank you so much! This makes so much sense. Since I didn't find a listing of Polish marks on this site (unless I missed them?), I was assuming that the items came from a time in history when Poland was a part of Russia. Is there an online site that shows Polish marks? Sorry for the concern o...

"Backwards" lion on Birmingham fork & spoon

I have a long -handled (8.25") fork and spoon set with a right-facing lion, the Birmingham anchor and, presumably, a date stamp (which I can't read to identify), the word STERLING and PAT. 1899. All the English examples I've seen show a left-facing lion. So what does it mean to have a right-fac...

Kokosnik ID not on list- server & more

We inherited several pieces - large tray, veggie servers, small bowls, candlesticks, etc. from Polish grandmother, who married an American in Warsaw in early 1920's. They got number of silver pieces for wedding presents. Also, in the 50s in the US she worked in the silver department of a big departm...
