Re: Help needed with the maker's marks / podstakannik

@Valdemar The Finn Erik Kollin was the head workmaster at Fabergé 1868-1889. He is best known for his high quality gold work. e.g. the replicas of the gold objects and jewellery found in the Kul-Oba burial mound 1830. He is also known for the first imperial egg, the Hen Easter Egg that was most lik...

Re: Russian Candlestick

Hi there! If this item came from Russia it doesn't mean that it was made there at all. The best way to identify the material it is made fro is just to go to your local coin shop ( my opinion). More or less decent coin shops have scanners and they can verify the material and its purity. In my area th...

Re: Help needed in identyfiyng Russian or Baltic XVIII c. silvermarks

Just for the records. Of pure curiosity I checked numbers Valdemar referred to and found that: P#1630 Jean Francois (Xavier?) Bouddé came to St Petersburg via Hamburg 1769 and worked there 1769-1789. He is a Frenchman. P#1755 Johann Wendel Feuerbach 1749-1767 is an Austrian. P#1788 Martin Charles D...

Re: Help needed in identyfiyng Russian or Baltic XVIII c. silvermarks

Hello guys, The design of the bowl reminds me Scandinavian dinnerware so I would look in this direction... I think it is Sweden one... The Б could be actually 6. Those Sweden silversmiths quite often put their initials and codes in the field of the shape with three petals. If you look the hallmarks ...

Re: Unknown marks on beaker

@Valdemar George the Winner!? The Moscow town mark is St. George slaying the Dragon. Anyway, of course V eckman...(those Cyrillic letters B=V, my mistake). However, the marks are so badly damaged that a 100% correct answer cannot be given, only an assumption. Yes, I mentioned George the Winner caus...

Re: Unknown marks on beaker

The maker's mark is А.В (dot must be higher) so it is most likely Vekman Andrey Vilhelm . He worked as a silversmith in Moscow from 1860 to 1884. ( The source - catalog Postnikova-Loseva 1995. - Mark number 2154). The city mark is George the Winner which indicates that it was verified and marked in ...

My number one mystery item.

Hey guys! I am a metal detectorist from Canada. Have some very interesting finds that I can not nail down 100 %. There is my find from Montreal, Quebec that I made last season. Spent so much time to id it but only came up to conclusion that this is the stylized French coat of Arms. But what is it? T...
