Re: Most impressive collections of 18th Continental snuffboxes

Hi Members I realise this is a very old post, I thought I would add another fantastic book on gold 18th century snuff boxes I purchased in Munich ,unfortunately it is in German (great if you read German) it may be hard to find. GOLDOSEN Des18. Jahrhunderts aus dem Besitz der Fursten von Thurn und Ta...

Re: can the crown on this sweets box be identified?

Hello
on viewing the crown marks again ,the crown on the maker August Dingeldein &son looks close to my crown.

The image is not clear and the tips on my crown are not there, but the general shape looks similar to me.

Re: can the crown on this sweets box be identified?

Many thanks AG
I knew it was a long shot, someone may come across this crown ,as you say on a piece with makers name.
as crown marks were not standard,we should be able to place the shape of the crown with maker eventually.

Re: Please help with hallmarks of a set of spoons and forks, 15 Loth

Hello
It seems to me ,that all you spoons may have been made by the same maker?
the spoons seem to be nearly identical design from the base to near where the figures start.
I am not sure if this has been noticed.

amazing spoons ,wish they were mine .

can the crown on this sweets box be identified?

Hi Members As the crown marks vary on German silver is it possible to identify the maker of this box ,via the crown, crescent moon shapes? It looks to me the company Bruckmann& Sohne may be a possibility . Many thanks Guido. https://i.imgur.com/oyeMYyr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ncjDBJa.jpg https:/...

Re: unusual heavily engraved snuff box,no marks, what country ,age.

Hi Members I have managed to load an image of the Hungarian box ,mentioned in my last post,to see if members feel it may be of similar manufacture,to my box? I notice on this box it looks like the plate behind the ornate top is riveted on ,the difference on my box is that the rivets are around the e...

Re: unusual heavily engraved snuff box,no marks, what country ,age.

Hi Members Re my ornate box, I have had it tested, the result was 844 ,by a jeweler ,I am not sure how accurate the test is? and if this may be a clue to where it was made? Another question I have is was the top and base ,made by the casting method or all hand cut with a small jewelers fret saw and e...

Re: info on german box ,angel blowing trumpet on lid.

Hi Bahner Thank you for your opinion about my box,It was not one of most expensive buys ,so it does not really matter if it is German or Chinese (would prefer old German pre 1888 with right 13 loth mark naturally ). I have added different photos hope they are better, the mark is hard get clear. Rega...

Re: unusual heavily engraved snuff box,no marks, what country ,age.

Hi Amena many thanks for your thoughts, what date do you mean if it may be Italian? do you have any images and examples? it would be great to discover the country it was made in. I have had an opinion from a very good dealer of English silver, who said it was continental ,may be Swiss c1860. So at the...

Re: unusual heavily engraved snuff box,no marks, what country ,age.

Hi Ag Many thanks for your great comments. I agree with you that it is probably European ,my feeling is maybe German, the clues may be in the engraving of some of the figures, based on mythology. I thought the central Figure may be Nike the winged female Greek god ,I am not sure who the bearded winged...

Re: What is the date of this Gorham box? Bigelow kennard& co.

Hi Cheryl The mark I was speaking about was the Bigelow Kennard &co stamp,as this became the company name around 1911-1912,as you suggested if the original design was made around 1900 it was either old stock stamped between 1911-1912 or because it was very popular and a good seller it was still ...
