Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

The last shown beaker is marked AK and not CG. Now we have CG for Grigoriev Kuzma and now suddenly also ГС ??? Who is who and where from is the information that CG would be Grigoriev Kuzma (except for Postnikova #2078) Interesting that the beaker in the link also shoves ГК. Moreover year 1745 on al...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

Also, take a look at this beautiful beaker that was sold in UK. Made same year (1745). Compare the work of it to mine beaker. In my opinion, it is just a higher quality work than ordinary beakers with eagles. https://i.ibb.co/Px8DtmY/Beaker-Antique-beaker-with-a-hunting-scene-Silver-A-Kuzmin-Russia-...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

How do you explain CG (Kuzma Grigorjev) initials in Latin ? Not even KG, but C for Cuzma. Here is an example of CG assayer mark. This beaker was made the same year as mine (1745). The only difference is a maker mark. Take a look, there is no Aldemans mark: https://i.ibb.co/syy1qhJ/14357501.jpg http...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

CG (Kuzma Grigorjev) assayer mark is quite common. I have seen it on a few items that were made in this period of time. I have no explanation of why it is CG, not KG. Probably we will never know. I have also found a beaker with a similar motif. Take a look below. https://i.ibb.co/r5fqBRL/12583557-fu...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

Do you think that alderman mark is is mandatory? I can see many examples where there are only 3 marks: City mark, assay mark, and maker.

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

I'm uploading more photos, maybe you will have some other thoughts. BTW it is not a donkey, it is probably a wolf or a fox. Thank you all again for this discussion. https://i.ibb.co/PwKP8zw/photo-2021-11-24-17-40-35.jpg https://i.ibb.co/nfxt2BV/photo-2021-11-24-17-40-37.jpg https://i.ibb.co/x8vNvY9/...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark

Please believe what AG102 tells you. He is absolutely right. This is a very very suspicious object. Grigorjev Kuzma was an assayer (an official) in Moscow 1838-49. He didn't "make" anything. As an official he only guaranteed the legal silver fineness of an object. He is not know to have m...

Alderman`s mark is wrong (non existing assay master in 1745).

This could be a maker, why do you think its alderman? The year is 1745, Moscow, Probing master is CG (Grigoriev Kuzma) - he worked from 1741 - 1752.

BTW, There were also heart-shaped marks of the maker, not only alderman's.

Re: Unknown maker

IVW+ is the maker's mark of Jacob van Wijk Sr., registered in Amsterdam from 1819/1846 Year letter G for 1841. Jacob van Wijk sr is a well-known, excellent Amsterdam silversmith of silver sewing utensils, silver flatware and so called silver bar baskets. From 1843 he also worked for A. Bonebakker &...
