Thank you Patrick, someone suggested today that it might be Josephus Smith, Sheffield, he is not listed in my reference book. Also is the star on the handle of any significance ?

Does anyone know this mark and what this knife was used for ?

I am new to silver collecting and hope you can help me. I have been looking for a long time to find this mark on the glass holders.
