Identification Please

Hi, This little spoon has a mark I cannot identify. It has a Boar (?) head on the top of the spoon so am jumping straight to a conclusion that it may be German and that it is a German Town Mascot/Symbol. Any information appreciated. Also if I am so wrong can let me know and I can move it to the righ...

Re: Enamelled Silver Tray with landscape portrait(s) painting

Damon. How interesting that article was. Thank you for referencing it. Perhaps there is an English translation of the poem I could get hold of? I will investigate. I purchased the tray in an antique shop in Baghdad just off Rasheed Street. Looking back they had some great pieces. I bought a small sw...

Re: Silver Gold Jade Ring. Unknown modern maker

SOLVED! The piece was made by Timothy Roe of Chichester. The Timothy Roe assay mark includes the Chichester Cross. They are the only jewellers in the country allowed to use the mark at all assay offices. http://www.timothyroe.com/hallmarking-the-chichester-cross The man who made this ring tells me ...

Re: Silver Gold Jade Ring. Unknown modern maker

Hi Trev. I managed to get a closer (better?) image. If I look long enough it appears to be a man on horseback. Or it could be an elephant and sometimes a gorilla!! The image is in a house like shape. Cheers. I have contacted the Goldsmiths company and requested TR registration so at least I will hop...

Silver Gold Jade Ring. Unknown modern maker

Can anyone identify the maker of this ring. I also need help with the last symbol on the hallmark as I cannot identify it. I have established it is London 1988 - although not very clear, it cannot be the letter O for 1969 as it has the 925 control mark which came into effect from 1976. It is silver ...

Re: Enamelled Silver Tray with landscape portrait(s) painting

I saw there was a lot of discussion about the Russian finesse here and the conclusion was it was not connected in any way. I asked a friend who left Iran just after the Shah was overthrown to decipher the text but he could not read it and he is a fluent speaker. You are probably right in that I need...

Enamelled Silver Tray with landscape portrait(s) painting

This piece has been in a cabinet since 1983 when I bought it. It appears to be anywhere from 1920 to 1960 (corrections welcome). The marks I assume are silver and 800 finesse (corrections welcome). It weighs a whopping 1184 grams and is 35 cms by 25 cms. The front is enamelled resembling a Persian r...

Pounce or Pepper Pot? Chinese or Not?

I love this object. I purchased it described as a Chine Pounce Pot although I have my doubts. Firstly English or European ones appear much larger - this is 5 cms wide and 4.2 cms high. Secondly, I have not managed to identify any of the marks, and I have been searching for some time. It does does n...

Luen Wo Matchbox Cover - Unknown artisan

This is my first piece of Luen Wo. Although small, still very excited. The repousse work achieved on his pieces is always lovely with a real depth and warmth to it. This piece with chrysanthemums is 40 mm x 60 mm x 20 mm. Even the background of the chrysanthemums has been given a mottle effect. Perh...

WA, Canton, full name undocumented, Sweet Dish

I purchased this small mother of pearl sweet dish with dragon. Having consulted the wonderful reference Chinese Export Silver by Adrian Von Ferscht . I have concluded it is by WA, an undocumented silversmith from Canton circa 1845 - 1900. The marks on the back are very small as these needed to be pu...
