Re: Royal Order Of The Garter

I hasten to add that the Honorable Order of the Garter is within the House Order here, that of Henry the Lion of the House of Brunswick.

Re: Royal Order Of The Garter

Try for a size my own Order of the Garter with buckle correctly at 7'o'clock. Set of cutlery belonging originally to Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg, uncle to Queen Victoria.

Re: Big tray from Lissabon

Just a few words of a post scriptum : the tureen providers name sounded very royal to me-Louis and for all I know the raided kitchen cabinet might have been of Dona Braganza or some such high and worthy lady. After all, those people do like the colour of our monies also. We used it only once in ange...

Re: Big tray from Lissabon

Those portugese of old used to be the law unto themselves. I have acquired some years ago , this enormous soup tureen, capacity 10.5L. The dealer told me that he has relieved his own mother of it and that it has been with the family "for ever". There were no hallmarks to be seen and I have...

Exeter towers or some drum sticks?

Here you have a couple of spoons which came my way. Attributed to John Stone of Exeter, 1855. What does worry me is a perfunctory representation of those 3 towers. They look to me more like some drum sticks or bones. Is that right? http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj51/swiniopas/Exeterhallmarks.jp...

Armee au tous points

This splendid arms crest is to be found on my large vintage teapot, hallmarked in Sheffield in 1923- so a youngster in heraldic terms. It does display a spiky hedgehog with quite appropriate motto in french suggesting that the arms bearer is well guarded in every direction.Which family it did belong ...

Re: Which Admiral drank tea from this set?

Many thanks, Trinity House crest it is. Hoped for somebody like Adm.Jellicoe of the First World War fame but will settle for some pilot of a barge on the river Thames now. Well, c'est la Vie.

Re: Nepalese silver teapot

Thanks for your valuable contribution. I have based my theory upon the well known fact that royal paraphernalia often did not carry any special distinguishing marks,e.g. Faberge's Easter Imperial Egg, recently authenticated in the USA. Or Victorian brooch discovered on the Antique Road Show in the U...

Re: Nepalese silver teapot

To bump up the flagging interest, let me add the footnote: incriminated teapot did appear to the market after famous 2001 royal nepalese household massacre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nepalese_royal_massacre My theory is that while Crown Prince Dipendra kept occupying himself with machine-gunning K...

Re: Bulgarian alms plate?

Thank you for your contribution. Also, when looking at the plate now, hanging elsewhere on the wall, I cannot help to notice that it has turned black! That makes me suspect the high purity of silver(950)alleged in those hallmarks. As the old Homer would say:Beware of the Greeks bearing gifts...to to...

Re: Bulgarian alms plate?

Thank you, the letter B sat on 3 legs mark is quite similar. However, the picture of silver open mussel does reveal in part written in cyryllic word: Konstanza .That is a place in Rumania!

Which Admiral drank tea from this set?

Presented below tea set is of squarish design, to secure it safely on the rolling seas. Made by Henry Stratford and assayed in Sheffield Assay Office in 1893, that is in the times when Britannia used to rule the waves. Can we tell, from the crest on the side, which Admiral or which illustrious ship ...

R.Suiza-where from?

Presented below is a terryfying image of native american gentleman sat in some discomfort on his throne or a loo. Part of an aztec or some such design as witnessed by the head of a King in fancy headgear, on top of a teapot. The only hallmarks are as those below. My question:who is the maker, R.Suiz...

Bulgarian alms plate?

Would appreciate help in locating the origin of this handsome alms plate. Holy men described in something akin to cyryllic but it is not russian alphabet. Hallmark seems to indicate a letter B for Bulgaria. The other-sign of a wheat ear? http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj51/swiniopas/OldBulgarian...
