Re: Six spoons - 4 Newcastle & 2 York marks!
Admin have removed references from both our posts, silvermakersmarks, which I quite understand - I will send the deleted part as a private message. Apologies for the original references, wasn't sure they'd be allowed!

Re: Six spoons - 4 Newcastle & 2 York marks!
Many thanks for the information, I was unsure about whether the York city mark was applied that often - I've come across early 1800s London marked pieces too that didn't have the city mark, but the makers and letters corresponded.
Thanks again

Six spoons - 4 Newcastle & 2 York marks!
Hi all - we've just had these beauties donated to us and I've cleaned them up and they've come up really well. Thought you'd like to see them and also wanted to chuck my theory past you and see what you think. They're all the exact same design, and engraved with the initials MJM at the top - I think...

Re: Silver Plated Bowls with FK 800 Mark
Many thanks Warren - Trev's sent me a PM with a bit more info, as he had to explain that he'd taken down my link to our Facebook page as it contained links to eBay, which I hadn't meant to do - he said, "It is very difficult to tell from images alone, but my gut feeling is that you are right ab...

Re: Silver Plated Bowls with FK 800 Mark
Hi Trev - no, they don't seem to be rubbed through - it's just that the metalwork has obviously machined sections that are rough and look like they've been cut from a mould and filed down - there are file marks and it's not smooth like you'd expect solid silver to be. It also doesn't 'sound' like si...

Re: Scottish Horn Beaker with Chester (?) Hallmark
Many thanks Trev - the date letter is really rubbed and I couldn't get a better photo - I'm just going to have to go with late 19th Century, which is when AJC was working and when a lot of these were made.
Thanks again

Silver Plated Bowls with FK 800 Mark
Hi all - we've just had these two large fruit bowls donated, with marks on the underside of both that say FK 800. Now I'm not under any illusion that they're solid 800 silver, they're obviously not - but does the 800 mean that they're Continental and 800 silver plated, or is it nothing to do with it ...

Scottish Horn Beaker with Chester (?) Hallmark
Hi all - we've just had this fabulous little horn beaker donated, and have been told by a dealer/collector that it's very rare, as most of these have a silver rim and very few were made without it. It looks to me that the hallmark is for Chester - it's very rubbed - and the letter looks like a J in ...

Lozenge Mark on Fork - is it Silver Plate?
Hi all - I check donations for a UK charity (I did ask admin about the use of the name but got no reply so hope it's OK) - and we often get antique silver and silver plate donated, but I've never come across anything with the lozenge mark, which I'm more used to seeing on pottery, dating to around 1...
