Japanese or Chinese Export Sterling Silver Cups
I believe that these are Japanese sake cups with saucers. The rims around the cups have a meander decor and the bodies have perched bird and butterfly amidst foliage. The cups are approx. 1.32 in., fitted saucers have a diameter of 2.62 in. I found a similar pair that were Japanese sake cups but the...

Re: Lovely Silver Kiddush Cup Engraved w/1837
Thank you very much for this information. Can you share with me the literature for the silversmith? I can not find any references to Schmahlfeldt or Schmalfeld.

Silver Bust - Need help with hallmarks
Here is a bust of Marie Antoinette that appears to be silver and possible dore bronze? I was wonder if anyone recognizes the silver marks? I thought I might find them under Italian, French or Finnish and so far nothing. Also inscribed LUCA CASTO di RENZO. It measures 11.75" in height. Thank ...

Tiffany & Co - 550 Broadway
I have an old coffee/tea service with the 550 Broadway address....also "GOLD & SILVERSMITHS". It is not marked STERLING but did test very strongly as sterling. and dates c.1854 ~ 1870 (J.C. Moore &; Son, maker). I certainly do not want to catalog the set as Sterling but would coin ...

Re: Assuming this is silver plate?
Thank so much Steve. When I was researching the marks, I first went to the World Marks page and checked Austrian and German marks. It never occurred to me to look for Hanau but now this mystery is beginning to make sense. I had another Hanau piece that was also charming but with a boat. Sold it long...

Assuming this is silver plate?
I have not yet tested it but I am a bit confused at the mark? Couldn't tell if this was a Turkish eagle or even a bad thistle? The figural double sided salt (?) is really sweet. I keep thinking it must be Thai or something because the mark is not that good however it could be older which is why the ...

Re: Old Sheffield Candelabras - Running Fox?
Thanks so much for asking. Strange that it would say TRADE MARK? No other marks found anywhere. Thank you for looking.

Old Sheffield Candelabras - Running Fox?
I have a pair of early 19th century Sheffield candelabras - the only mark is to the foot in the form of a running fox (?) with possibly the words "TRADE MARK" below. I thought this could be Charles Fox but no such luck. I was hoping for Matthew Bolton but there are no additional marks. Any...

Re: Silver Filigree Sheath
I will get a silver testing kit and update the posting after I test it! Very interesting that the body of the sheath is decorated in four sections over the fine filigree work with a crown, Scottish thistle, Maltese cross and profile bust of knight and shield. Not sure if this sheath was for a certai...

Re: Silver Filigree Sheath
Am reposting the photographs! I don't know why they were removed as I have not taken them off of my photobucket account. I do have a question regarding the silver content on this sheath, would it be considered sterling or plate? Thanks so much! http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm278/laurapmccracke...

I have never seen these types of marks. I thought perhaps they were Russian or Polish but I am at a loss. Re: Need Help on Arctic Ice Bucket
Just wanted to update everybody that this was custom piece manufactured by a local silversmith here in Atlanta. Gia Gogishvili, owner and master silversmith of Atlanta-based Estes-Simmons Silversmiths, Inc., began his career at the age of 14 when he entered Tbilisi M. Toidze Art College. He continue...
