Re: Help with Small Marks on French Silver Mesh Purse

The shape of the boar's head mark is so distinctive that it is possible to recognise even when really faded. So all three, as has been said, are correct.

Re: Help with CARDEILHAC CHRISTOFLE hallmark.

Definitely silver. With French silver it is pretty easy to tell as the maker's mark will be a lozenge if it is silver and a square if it is plate. If silver then the Minerva or other mark will tell you which level of purity.

Need help with French maker's mark

Hi, OK, I give up! I have used all my resources and still cannot find this maker's mark. It is on a large sterling silver serving tray which carries the Minerva mark with the figure 1 top right so I know it is French and 950/100 silver. The first part is simple as it is Ste which, I believe, stands ...

Hi,

The closest I can find is for Georges Rochette but, as you say, it does not seem to be an exact match.

Stumped on silver plate hallmark

Hi, I recently bought this candle snuffer and wick trimmer in UK and I am stumped by the hallmark. I know it is silver plated and I believe it was made before 1890 as it still has the crown mark at the beginning but other than that I know nothing so any ideas would be more than welcome. https://www....

Re: Open salt - maker E P

Hi,

This might be a little late but, the mark you have is that of Ernest Prost who was registered as a jeweler at 7 rue Reaumur in Paris from 1923 to 1963. The mark is a star above a garter. The French reference number ofr this jeweler is PG005906

Re: Help With French Backstamp Seal End Spoon

Hi Sharon, Firstly my apologies to Maurice, the 1 at the forehead denotes .950 silver not .925 of course (should take more care when I am writing). He is also absolutely right that there is a great deal of satisfaction in hunting down what the marks mean yourself but I still use the forum when reall...

Re: Help With French Backstamp Seal End Spoon

Hi Sharon, That looks very like the Minerva mark but it is impossible to see where the 1 is which would determine whether it is 925 or 800 silver. The fact that there is a lozenge at all means it is solid silver but I cannot see the lozenge so it is not possible to tell who made it. Any chance of a ...

Re: Help on maker of French fruit salad servers

Hi Monte, It would appear from your images that only the ferules are silver. Is this where the Minerva mark is to be found? Trev. Hi Trev, Thanks for the reply and I hope this is the correct way to contact you. The Minerva mark is only on the ferules and I suspect the other end (I do not know the t...

Hi Trev,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the minerva mark is only on the ferules. Any ideas on the maker?

Help on maker of French fruit salad servers

Hi, I have a lovely pair of French silver fruit salad servers with a nice clear Minerva mark and maker's mark but I cannot find the maker, any ideas out there? Many thanks Monte http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/r726/monte1001/646bcd70-b1f8-4d6b-94c4-fa5a31a34263_zps9dee0eb8.jpg http://i1364.photo...

French Maker's mark on a silver cup

Hi, This little cup has the following maker's mark on it and I wondered if anyone out there happens to know it. http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/r726/monte1001/bth_herve2_zpsb045575d.jpg http://i1364.photobucket.com/albums/r726/monte1001/bth_herve5_zpscfd38051.jpg?t=1368789476 Cheers Monte

Re: Asparagus Server? What?

Hi Jag,

As to the item, I think it would originally been a part of a set used for serving hors d'oevres. I see a fair few as I live in France and I enclose a link to a recently sold set for you to have a look at.

Re: Asparagus Server? What?

Hi Jag,

According to Tardy's International Hallmarks on Silver the maker's mark on French silver is in a lozenge when the item is of the required fineness of silver. Usually plated items would have the maker's mark in a square or oblong or oval.

Re: Pocket watch Hallmark

Hi,

Looking at your mark I think it is LM not EM and the mark below could be a quail which would mean it is from Louis Moisé 1902

Hope that helps

Monte
