Re: Wild man crest on 1813 salt spoon?

Fairbairn's Book of Crests, 1905 ed. maybe plate 185 #2 : A demi wildman affrontee, wreathed round the waist and temples with laurals and supporting a club resting on the dexter schoulder.
Maybe Barr, Corney, Douglas or Lachlan family crests?
Anyone seen any of these family crests for comparison?

Re: 18th century rouge box

Thank you Amena! We thought that the NP was actually I.N over some symbol. With the proper image of Venice hallmark one can see the worn figure is exact. This small box has been cared for very well and being a reliquary would explain the condition more than a snuff box or rouge pot. We have found on...

Thank you. These cross over pseudo marks makes one think Wolf & Knell may have collaborated with some other Hanau smith in this instance.

Been searching for something american made with this connection, their was a Daniel Hedges circa 1830 (Silversmith). Now all we have to do is figure out a way to...

Re: Whiting Mfg. Co. without trademark?

Interesting is that if this was made 1871 It was not made in N.Y. but in Mass. The factory, located in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, was destroyed by a fire in 1875. What was salvaged by the ruins was acquired by F, Jones and the production transferred to New York combining its manufacturing opera...

Thank you very much. I have added new marks to my understanding of Hanau silver. I believe this is the first one I have found that has been partially hand hammered.

Hello AG2012,
Have cleaned area last night. Worn pitted scratched area. If any marks there lost for good. May have been week or poorly struck. The aw and 13 were struck hard enough to show flat patterns on interior gold washed area. You have very good eye sight I may add.
