Silversmiths interacted more often than we can imagine. Even today, jewelers work together and get supplied from the same source, then apply their own mark...

Re: Silver snuffbox in enamel

So, it opens like this; easily, well done.
Three small holes on top tell it`s a pepper shaker. There are even minor remnants (residues) of pepper. It`s organic and better than salt. No harm done to silver. Wash it, though, anyway.

Hi,
I embedded your images (few members of the forum would click on links).
Town mark is very difficult to decipher. Sharper image is needed. Or you can try to compare it with coat of arms of Romainan towns within Austrian territories at the time.

Re: Silver snuffbox in enamel

Try to open it unscrewing the disk at the bottom. Soak in warm water (not boiling). Hopefully it was used as pepper shaker; not badly oxidized, unlike salt shakers, and it`s worth trying to open and clean it. If left like this for longer time the screw may get completely stuck. There is another poss...

Re: Portuguese-Russian ring Mystery

Hi,
The ring was made in 1984. Most likely by amber factory (kombinat) in Riga.
One of the examples we do not trust in provenance e.g.``being in the family for a century`` etc.
