yes, I see now that the first letter could be an S - that hadn't occured to me, I could only see J initially. Also I had always thought that the lion passant would be present on English silver - learning slowly but surely!

of little or no help to you{!} - I believe the same mark was noted on a pair of Old English pattern sugar tongs and catalogued as 'unascribed but probably colonial circa 1800'.

I believe this ingot was made in Sheffield, year 1977. The bottom mark {duty mark} is a commemorative one for the Queens Silver Jubilee. I am sure this information is correct, if I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me! Hope this helps...Best wishes, Jo.

Hi Ag2012, thank you, yes I think it's a really super little piece! The makers mark is definitely 'C.P' or 'G.P' and not G.B.
