Serpico & Laino were a very up-market retailler in Caracas, Venezuela. A number of rare top quality watches (e.g. Rolex) were double-marked with their name. I think your tray however is probably Italian - can you precisely describe the mark in the hexagon? I looks like it ends in MI which is pro...

The date letter, an "H" in script, looks like 1980. Your piece was assayed in London (the cat's face). I don't recognise the maker ("KS") I'm afraid.

The style looks rather like a barroque imitation, perhaps based on something from colonnial Mexico?

While I was looking for Thomas Wallis marks on the internet, guess what I found! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/patrickvyvyan/Spoons15.jpg Hallmarked for London, 1792, this is the dealer's description: "Pair of Plain Old English sauce ladles - mark of Peter & Ann Bateman overstruck ...

I have to admit a certain confusion here. Are we talking about Thomas Wallis I or his apprentice Thomas Wallis II ? (I thought they were father & son, but aparently no blood relationship has been established). The following information comes from http://www.silversugartongs.com" onclick=&qu...

I've made several mistakes in the last week or so, so perhaps I'm not on my best form! However...... There seem to be two important differences between your mark and the examples you show. First is the top of the first letter - I think yours extends both left and right. Secondly there are two dots b...

On second thoughts, Admin may well be right. My first assumption was the last mark was a number "1" - but it could be the Gaelic-style "I" used in that cycle. If so, you should see first mark, a tree with a fish accross it; second mark, a lion rampant; and third mark a thistle. T...

Your marks are not the official hallmarks for Scotland - so almost certainly your dagger is silver-plate. And generally silverplate marks do not indicate date.

But rather nice all the same!

Sorry to disappoint you, but these marks don't sound like sterling silver. If it were I would expect to find a lion, a crown and a letter, all in different stamps. So I guess it is silver-plate.

I'm probably paranoid, but is the handle upside down to the bowl? Generally I expect to see initials or monograms on the "bottom" from continental silver. And, in your photo, there does seem to be some evidence of repair/tampering in the centre of the stem???????? Perhaps I'm just paranoid...

Your first mark ooks like the maker's mark, possibly "WB" - in which case William Beates of Dublin may be a contender. He seems to have specialised in spoons and was working in the 1750s.
