Your spoon was made by Mappin Bros. who were registered at Queen's Cutlery Works in Sheffield.

Just a piece of information to help clarify a point that seems to puzzle people. Bradbury's Book of Hallmarkks clearly states that the date letter marks on Birmingham silver items between 1872 and 1894 can be in either an oval or a rectangle with cut corners.

Do you have a copy of Bradbury's Book of Hallmarks? In the Birmingham section it states that between 1872 and 1894 the date letter could appear either in a circle or a rectangle with clipped edges. It does seem a little odd that the two different date options were used on the same piece. It ...

A good candidate for your mark A.S.P.Co is the Angora Silver Plate Co originally registered in July 1921 but still manufacturing at the time of your piece.

from your description and without the benefit of an image the TW in a diamond is the mark for Thomas White a small worker registered in London.

The makers mark is that of W.S. Savage & Co. Their mark was first registered as WSS on 31 July 1894 and their registered address at that time was Standard Works, 173 Pond Street, Sheffield.

I think your Mark may be J.M.B rather than J.M.R and the maker is J.Millward Banks.

Not sure what the 7 denotes but the maker's mark is that of William Bruford & Son Ltd, silver workers. The mark was first registered 30th September 1913. as William Bruford & Son.

A more likely candidate for your maker is Thomas Jones a small worker who registered his mark on 24 January 1884. Culme, Vol ll, the Directory of Gold & Silversmiths, Jewellers & Allied Traders 1838-1914 has a perfect illustration of the mark on page 291 ref: 13975.

Your mark is that for Salkind & Koshr London silver workers. Moses Salkind and Reuben Koshr (otherwise Rubin Kusher) joined in partnership and registered their mark on 4 January 1902.

A second edition of the Sheffield Assay Office Register was published in 1989 and was available directly from the Assay Office. I got mine from them sometime certainly after 2000 I checked on their website this morning and could not find a reference to it anymore. It would be worth a telephone call ...

Your mark is indeed that of John Oxley, Plate Worker of 25 Charles Street, Sheffield who registered his mark on 19 April 1841. Information provided by the Sheffield Assay Office Register.

Good candidates for your piece are John Settle & William Hatfield. They registered their mark IS in Sheffield on 16 June 1802. They were plate workers trading from 16 Scotland Street, Sheffield. The mark as shown in the Sheffield Assay Office Register is a broadly similar to your image.

The makers name on your piece is that of Victor Block, Arthur Danziger Isaacs t/a Danziger & Isaacs. They were Jewellery importers and importers of Jewellery materials. They traded from 9, Vyse Street, Birmingham and also from 26-27 & 84 Hatton Garden, London EC.
