Re: Crossed Keys, V.O. ? Hallmarks

Hi- I finally started a website where I have posted information and images from the Victor Obler Co original catalog which was the source of the facsimile maker's mark I shared here a few years ago. The link is http://www.oldcatalogsrevisited.com/fovo.shtml (my apologies if website links are not all...

Thomas Wallis II Jonathan Hayne spoon No City Mark

I have three similar 4-inch spoons with fairly deep oval bowls and a handle engraving depicting a seated stag or deer under a banner with a Latin? motto. The engraving on two of the spoons is so worn it is completely illegible. The marks appear to be that of London silversmiths Thomas Wallis II and ...

I no longer have a website that I can use to host photos. Is there another way to upload photos to the forum?

Re: 3 mark Salt Cellar: Lion, ?O., crossed keys

I had previously posted the photo of the company trademark from a Victor Obler catalog and had stated that it only contained plated items and there was no mention of sterling production. I just noticed that there ARE a few sterling silver items included in this catalog: a 3"x3.5" shell sha...

My apologies for not noticing that this discussion had been moved (I found it in the silverplate category).

Re: Spoon with Arm & Hammer, "R", and eagle

I happened to notice a remarkably similar strong arm device printed on a meeting notice of the Providence Association of Mechanics and Merchants "Providence Gazette", October 12, 1822. [It was reprinted in an article by Antiques Magazine from October 1966 about Rhode Island cabinetmakers.]...

Re: 3 mark Salt Cellar: Lion, ?O., crossed keys

Hi- Just to the right of the photo I posted with the trademark is an ink stamp that reads: Our New Address: 417 East 76th St New York Phone Regent 4-3192 Perhaps if anyone has access to old New York phone books they could help to narrow down the timeline. Since the items in the catalog are all repro...

Re: Help with 3 Markings on Serving Platter

Hi- That is the mark of the Victor Obler Co of NY. I have an undated catalog entitled Authentic Reproductions of Old Sheffield Plate and Antique Silver on Copper. I do not see the warmer in the catalog but their trademark is printed on the title page: http://www.msinformationbooks.com/1vo.jpg

Re: 3 mark Salt Cellar: Lion, ?O., crossed keys

That footed salt is a product of the Victor Obler Co of NY. I have an undated catalog entitled Authentic Reproductions of Old Sheffield Plate and Antique Silver on Copper. This salt is pictured in this catalog as having a blue glass lining. The mark used by the company was printed on the title page ...

Re: Please help ID hallmarks on Russian? 925 bracelet niello

I received this information from another source:
Your modern 925 Russian mark was found in World Hallmarks - Volume 1 - Europe - Whetstone Nikleewic Matula - book published 2010 so also covers very recent marks
Thanks for your assistance with this item.

I didn't mean to be disrespectful in my last post so I hope you didn't take it that way. You obviously know much more about silver than I do and I truly appreciate your reply.

Thanks for the reply. I checked all the sources I had available for Latvia and the lady's head faces to the left or up in those marks - the one I pictured faces right. Also, Lativa is listed as making 875 or 916 silver. My first impression when I bought this was that the lower mark with the profile ...

Please help ID hallmarks on Russian? 925 bracelet niello

One of the marks on this bracelet appears to be a backwards N which I believe is in the cyrllic alphabet. I have searched this website, Tardy's silver book and Paulson's Russian silver hallmarks and didn't see it. Most items I have found from Russia were not 925 silver so maybe I am completely wrong...

Individual coffeepot possibly Christofle?

I have just noticed that the design of this individual pot is very similar to some Christofle patterns although it has only the one tiny monogram mark. Ideas anyone?

Hi-
Thanks so much. I checked all my references and don't see the name listed anywhere. Is it possible to ask the approximate dates he worked?
Thanks again

ID Maker's Mark on Individual? Coffee Pot

This pretty little pot measures only about 6.5" in height to the top of the fruit basket finial. There is only one tiny mark on the bottom - it measures only about 1/16th inch so is quite hard to decipher. My best guess is a large T over an H with dots on either side. I have searched in all my ...
