Thanks for the info so far. I think that the knife detail seems more London so did not really consider Exeter made. Would the handle have had a duty mark even if only made as a later replacement copy ?
Help needed please on the maker JH. This knife has a replacement blade (1840's ?) by Harvey, Denton & Co 64 Strand and is 10.5 inches long ? The handle has Lion one side and maker mark JH along with a dog crest on the other. I take it that the handle is pre 1784 as no duty mark. Perhaps a lost r...
Hi, I did consider Robert Albin Cox, I thought the pellet was higher on my pot and a different outer shape to the punch. This may of course be camera angle and wear. Perhaps he is the most likely maker though. Thanks for the input.
Help needed please on this pepper pot/caster probably circa 1725 Weighs 138 gr and 13.5 cm tall. Maker mark only which looks to be R.C A crest as shown which may help maker attribution. May possibly be a provincial piece as lack of any hallmarks. Thanks, Robert https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg...
Thanks for the speedy and detailed response Trev. I could not find the mark in any books I have, Please use these marks for American Marks reference pages of course.
Help needed please on this teaspoon. Marked Lane & Bailey & Co, Madison and coin silver. I have seen Bailey items with various partners and Philadelphia but not with Lane or Madison. Thanks in advance. Robert https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg.jpg
I have found that one of the many and varied marks used by James Erskine of Aberdeen is identical to this one. Two Scottish silver experts I contacted are both certain of this attribution. I was fairly sure of a provincial mark and as a start tried the London topic page.
Help needed please on this 7.5 cm tall pot of 50 gr. Is this a pepper, spice or pounce pot ? Maker mark only right in the middle of the body and a rubbed mark in the middle of the lid. No other rubbed marks so possibly a provincial maker ? Under an eyeglass from various angles I would say more likel...
Thank you for the information David. I can of course see that it is a horses head and not a Unicorn now it has been pointed out to me ! Nice spoons that the families thought highly enough of to add these nice crests. Sad to think that some are erased.
Hi, help needed please on this Dublin spoon. These 2 crests are on a John Pittar 1809 Dublin assayed large table/serving spoon. There is also a monogram just below the assay marks on the reverse so a few different family connections over the years. Thanks in advance. Robert https://www.925-1000.com/...
Hi, information needed please on this teaspoon. Assay master appears to be Dimitry Ilyich Tverskoy in the Russian Silver Marks section, dated St Petersburg 1846 Possibly 2 maker marks of maybe IFF and N&P, perhaps one is the retailer ? Thanks in advance. Robert https://www.925-1000.com/pics/Ximg...
Thanks for your speedy answer. A lot of marks for just a little teaspoon but a great example. I have looked at pic 3 from all directions and cannot work out what it depicts. The same applies to pic 4, a definite mark as deeply struck. Great to pinpoint a maker though.
Hi, This teaspoon seems to check out as Lille circa 1763, can anyone throw some light on a maker please ? Under an eye glass it is a crowned FR. There are a few other marks including 2 x letter C, a mark that looks almost like a small horses head and another mark like a mini candelabra between the 2...
Hi Gordon, I did see the James Whitthorne maker mark you refer to. The only mark that I have found near to this one is the Kinsale one. I have not found any mark similar from other countries, do you feel it is Irish in origin ? There must be another item with this maker mark for comparison even if n...
thanks for the input on my spoon. It has an Irish feel to it so are there any other likely attributions in early Irish makers ? A shame not to pin it down to a maker when the W mark is so clear.
Hi, I have a rat tail table spoon with a pronounced rib on the front of the handle. Probably original initials AE on the reverse along with 2 x W marks and a 3rd worn mark. It looks and feels Irish but the W marks are not quite the same as Kinsale examples, maybe an unrecorded one ? Any help appreci...
