Re: Is there a resource for soviet marks?

Thank you very much - and I didn't mean any insult. I know that there are a good number of people in this group who are very knowledgeable about soviet silver - I am wondering why there isn't a soviet section in the markings catalog. Here is the Russian section: http://www.925-1000.com/Frussia.html ...

Is there a resource for soviet marks?

Hi - So I come once again (humbly) to the experts here for help identifying a Soviet (post-revolution) hallmark. In addition to any advice you might have in identifying this, would you know of any resource (either in print or online) for identifying USSR markings? It seems like this forum drops off ...

Re: Obscure Dutch silver hallmark

Thank you for the help. The maker's mark was obscured by a bit of tarnish... Here it is:

Appears to be ?GZS? but that doesn't show up in the Dutch database. Any thoughts?

Obscure Dutch silver hallmark

In the picture is a circular silver box with a relief lid. The first hallmark, the lion, is on the bottom outside of the box. The second hallmark, which I can't identify is on the outside lip of the inner rim. Curious to know if anyone has seen this before or has a better idea of the date (all I kno...

Silver Cigar Box - Unknown origin/markings

Came across this cigar box. Wooden floor that was unfortunately cracked and I am working to repair. In the mean time, it has these three hallmarks both on the outside lip of the lid and on the bottom of the frame. Any ideas? http://i.imgur.com/GJD7Hl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/p0vzZl.jpg http://i.imgur....

Unidentifiable characters in hallmark

I found this piece, which I believe is the holster for some sort of grooming brush, but really only a guess (any help on that would be much appreciated). Came from a collection that was primarily french/dutch late 19th century antiques, but this could be an odd ball. In any case, I don't even know w...

Help identifying Danish Teapot

Assayer clearly marked Jens Sigsgaard and the silver hallmark says 47 (1947). No idea where to begin to look regarding the actual maker's mark on this teapot. Went through a good number of the normal listings, but too many of the Danish makers don't have pictures of their hallmarks listed. Any help ...

Silver Viola da Gamba charm

This is a silver viola da gamba or bass (technically one could confuse it with the violin... and it may have been designed as such, but the actual proportions are more like a baroque bass of some sort). It has two hallmarks, which I tried to photograph as best I could. Also seems that it was gold pl...

Ornate Tea Spoon Set

I recently found a set (12) of ornate Russian tea spoons. Each has a gilded edge, and each of the floral designs is unique (not sure if the pattern was repeated between sets or if every single one is hand made and thus unique). Any information on them would be very helpful. Thanks in advance. http:/...

Russian/Estonian Pincher

I have recently come across this piece (possibly a sugar pincher or small ice pincher). My previous research suggests that the З means Estonia, but beyond that I have had difficulty placing it. It is gilded silver and 11.5 cm in length. Any help with the year or maker would be most appreciated. htt...

Thank you, I appreciate the information. My statement about the opium was because the three engravings are all of the poppy flower in various stages. Your information about the use as a salt container was very helpful.

Soviet C45 Marking? Any ideas?

I have an unusual canister, looks to be an opium jar? Three vignettes of a poppy flower. Appears to be gold plated inside. The bottom is engraved with a standard post-WWII Soviet Mark, with the M in the left corner signifying Moscow. Meanwhile, on both the bottom and the cap there is the marking &qu...

An unusual monogram on a Tiffany piece, curious about origin

I came across this piece recently... It is a Tiffany Clinton Serving Fork (1920?). The monogram is so peculiar that I thought it might have some significance and not simply be a private monogram. Any help would be greatly appreciated. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XPyYmsexHWE/SpnkrwnsrCI/AAAAAAAABfI/v1d...
